Grant here:

According to Marcus Thompson II, the Warriors could be on the verge of trading Anthony Randolph to the Knicks for David Lee.

This would be a dreadful move. The Warriors would have to pay Lee more than he’s worth (an escalating salary starting around $13 mil a year), and they’d still be the worst defensive team in the league. They’d have at least $22 million locked up in Lee and Biedrins going forward, a tandem that could form, dollar for dollar the worst defensive frontcourt in the history of the NBA.

With Randolph, the team is set up to compete three years down the line. Trading for Lee makes the Warriors look like they’re trying to win now. But a team of Curry/Ellis/Morrow/Lee/Biedrins will not make the playoffs next season. So what’s the point?

Please, Larry Riley, put the phone down. Don’t ruin the Warriors before new ownership has a chance to fire you.
