Here’s a followup to yesterday’s post asking who is a better coach, Singletary or Cable. Many Zohnists made a good case for Cable who has won some big games and Singletary hasn’t.

I want to advance the conversation so please consider this. In the Bay Area we are in a strange situation. The college coaches are better than the pro coaches. Seriously.

You may have your issues with Cal’s Jeff Tedford but he is better than Singletary and Cable. Tedford is a consistent winner, 5-2 in bowl games and you know what he’s done with the Cal program. He’s way beyond the two pro coaches in knowledge and leadership. If he were coaching the Niners the plays would get in in time.

Same goes for Stanford’s Jim Harbaugh who resurrected Stanford’s moribund football program. He is a dynamic — crazed? — coach who gets a tremendous amount out of his team and does not get out-coached and gets the plays in in time.

Quite a paradoxical situaiton around here.
