Lisa from ESPN phoned early this morning and asked me to do a phoner about the 49ers with the show Outside the Lines at noon today. I was stoked. I had breakfast with Brian Murphy and he was stoked. We said the word “dude” a lot to each other.

I got home just before the show. My wife was upstairs with our six-month-old grandson. She was stoked although I can’t say the baby was. I was watching the show. The host said my name — Lowell Cohn — said I would be on after the commercial. I waited for the phone to ring. Nothing. I began to lose my stokeness.

Finally Steve from ESPN called. Steve said they ran into a problem and I would not be on. He apologized for the inconvenience.

No, not much of an inconvenience if you discount the humiliation factor before a national audience. So I missed my 15 minutes of fame — 7 minutes in this case. I’m back to just being me for better or worse.

I think I’ll have a baloney sandwich for lunch and then I’ll head on over to the Niner game. I’m sure that will get me stoked.
