I’m sitting here at AT&T Park getting ready for Game 1 of the World Series. I’m reading that Troy Smith will start in London for the Niners instead of David Carr. The 49ers are in a tough spot, had a real tough decision between Carr who is no good and Smith whom they don’t know about — and may or may not be good.

I don’t minimize the Niners’ dilemma. But I want to add this — if the 49ers lose they cannot use Smith as an excuse. Their roster is their business and their problem. And they’ve managed to lose a bunch of games before they had to call on Smith.

It’s nice to know the Yorks aren’t grumbling about Mike Singletary. Everyone else is, Troy Smith or no Troy Smith.

At the time they signed Carr, for $6.25 million in salary over two seasons, it seemed like way too much money. Too bad they didn’t use some of that money for a GM.

Troy Smith was a great college QB. A bit undersized, slow release, strong arm, athletic.

It’s just more Singletary incompetence – wasting 6 million on and keeping Carr who he has no confidence in and not activating Davis who is probably still the best quarterback on the team – though we will never know since they won’t give him a chance. The missteps continue, the mistakes continue, the clueless stewardship remains, on every level, with this pathetic team.

I don’t know about you KauaiRobert…but I’d take $3,000,000 a year to play dress up every Sunday, hold a clip board, and cheer for a couple of guys named Smith…

There is something bizarre about how Singletary has been handling the QB situation. Seems like he got Carr precisely because he sucks and thus would eliminate any quarterback controversy for Alex Smith.

When the national broadcasters said how great Nate Davis looked Singletary went out of the way to say how lousy he was.

Troy Smith is a pickup after preseason and he’s starting over Nate Davis, who apparently has such a learning disability that he hasn’t learned in two years what Troy Smith learned in two months. And Nate has actually taken snaps with the team in a game unlike Smith.

    1. There appears to be not a learning problem but a teaching problem. After all, Westbrook apparently still hasn’t grasped the Raye Offense either.

    2. Singletary would rather go with two quarterbacks, one an unknown and the other demonstrably incompetent, rather than promote Nate Davis to the roster.

    3. If Carr sucks so much what is the point of keeping him?

    4. This is about the time that the Niners should be figuring out what they’ve got for next year. That should include Nate Davis and it should exclude David Carr.

    Hi Lowell

It is opportunity time for the 49ers in a good way. Eric Davis, the former 49er, says (paraphrase) ‘how you do when you get the chance is what makes the difference in careers’.

It is obvious the 49ers are waiting for a QB to ‘jump out at them’ to take over the job in a championship way.

If the new Smith can’t do it, look for Nate Davis to get a shot.

Sunday we get to see what Troy has got.

If that doesn’t work….look to the draft

It is nice to know that the 49ers are poised for great things. York has full confidence in Sing and Sing is fully confident that we are going to the playoffs. So just sit back , relax and enjoy Troy Smith work his magic.
Oh, by the way did not the Broncos lose badly to the Raiders,Sunday? They are not going to be in a good mood this weekend, and will be eager to redeem themselves.
Lowell, do you see a “perfect storm” developing?

Lowell, when are you going to ask the tough questions at the Niner pressers? Please, please, please step up to the plate and get under Singletary’s skin. He is a fool, period. And while you are at it, give it to the Yorks. They are high on the list of dimbulbs in sports.

Take your swings Lowell! :- )

They are going to dial down the playbook for Troy Smith, so why not play Nate Davis, who is more physically gifted and has top instincts and pocket feel? The answer is, the 49ers are run by f*cking morons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It might have been the photo-but is Singletary taller than Smith? he’s one short QB. If the niners were going in that direction, than sign Jeff Garcia. Eh,why kid myself?-the 49ers have no plan anymore.

TiburonDave – But does that money make up for being publicly declared as useless in your chosen profession? I would think not.

Troy Smith? Really? Why not just a direct snap to Gore on every play?

Westbrook, Westbrook, can someone look in their Rolodex and tell me who this Westbrook character is that Bob is speaking of?

Singleberry will do anything to start a QB named Smith.

Maybe, Sing is a genius! He said all those bad things about Nate Davis so that he would clear waivers to go on the practice squad.

Sing parades around the field, wearing his huge cross and looking like Bishop O’Dowd getting ready to read last rites. Especially so, because he is carrying nothing else (not even the plastic coated playlist — as if he could call a play every now and then).

Who was the GM that signed Carr?, oh, that’s right, no GM, no VP of football operations, no football X&O intelligence.

Remember when Patrick Willis blasted the David Carr signing on his twitter? Sad how he is a better evaluator than our team’s personnel guys.

Carr was a McClueless signing. Troy was a Singletary move. any ?’s. Singletary loves “his guys.” He plays his favorites like Rachal over more competent players like Snyder or Heittman (with Baas replacing Rachal in this scenario).
