Please take this for what it’s worth and it may not be worth a lot. I was on Comcast Friday night and they had a prerecorded interview with a guy from SI.com. The guy said two people in the Niner organization phoned him to say the Niners are interested in Mike Holmgren as coach and GM.

I don’t get calls like those. But let’s play a game and assume it’s all going to come true. Let’s assume the Niners will fire Mike Singletary at season’s end as they should. Holmgren would be a great GM. He grew up in SF and he grew up with the Niners and the Niners need to become the Niners again, West Coast Offense and all.

I don’t think Holmgren should be coach. Maybe a little too old for that demanding job. Jon Gruden would be good as coach. He was a Niner intern, used to sleep at the facility and stay up all night watching game film. The Niners need Holmgren and Gruden or guys like them.

I’m just speculating on what I heard on the show. It’s a nice speculation.
