NBC Sports is reporting the Niners are making a phony search for a GM. The 49ers  want Trent Baalke and they’ll rig the GM search so he can win. To read the article click here.

I don’t know if NBC is right. I sure hope not. If Jed York hires Baalke it means Jed hasn’t learned a thing. Why is it wrong to hire Baalke as GM?

1. The team needs change and Baalke would be more of the old regime that failed.

2. Baalke is a good college scout but he does not have the pedigree of a GM or the connections in the league. During the season he’s gone during the week scouting college players. He is not as well informed as he needs to be on the NFL.

3. The 49ers want a big name coach — names like Jim Harbaugh and Jon Gruden keep coming up. High-powered guys like Harbaugh and Gruden never will work for a relative unknown like Baalke. It would be ludicrous. And it would show Jed is clueless still.

I hope NBC’s report is wrong. I’m just telling you what’s out there.
