If he is available when the 49ers draft in the first round, should San Francisco take him? Clearly, Jim Harbaugh will have an informed opinion about this. My opinion is NO!.

The Niners should draft defense. You build a team on defense. They should draft a corner or a pass rusher.

Cam Newton is good in college but he is a project in the NFL. He does not throw nearly as well as Andrew Luck. I’m not sure he throws as well as Alex Smith. He is a good runner but he will not be a game breaker in the NFL. And he will take several years to develop.

The Niners should take a QB in the second or third round. Newton will be gone by then, and that’s OK.
