Stanford just announced David Shaw is their new head coach. This frees up other Stanford coaches to go with Jim Harbaugh to the 49ers.

Expect Greg Roman to the offensive coordinator. He would help Harbaugh create the game plan and he would call some, maybe most of the plays. Harbaugh is vague about who calls plays during games.

Vic Fangio is likely to be 49ers defensive coordinator. He did a nice job at Stanford. He has a history in the NFL. One knowledgeable observer to me Fangio’s defenses in the NFL “didn’t scare anyone.” He’ll get a chance to scare people now.

Easy not to scare anyone with an expansion team.

Fangio was coordinator for an expansion team, and a team with little talent. With a CB and a OLB this defense can be very good.

Now that the euphoria is dying down…we all have to realize this is going to be a long road…both in terms of players and coaches this team is not so close that quick fixes will work out…we’ll see about Fangio…right now the whole franchise is on the come line…

Maybe Mike Johnson will pull a switcheroo, back out of UCLA, and go to work for Shaw at Stanford.

Funny thing… as a ‘niners fan those Saints linebackers sure scared the hell out of me…

Hey Lowell, I just read that the Cowboys interviewed Fangio for the job of defensive coordinator on Monday .

I hope we can wait for Fangio – Roman and Harbaugh to make their mistakes “on the field” before we inject our own vitriol regarding what they can do or what they did not do with their past teams. IMO this is going to be a unique situation along the way with the 49er ride becoming a marathon and not a sprint. The journey is now more important than the destination.
We will win some games that we should have lost and lose some games we should have won. As fans we wont be putting on the uniform – remember that. Most of our expertise exists in our own Mental Hall of Fame. One thing is apparent – 49er training camp should be well attended by the public. If there is a lock out it may effect the cohesiveness of the 2011-12 Ningers.
8-8 or 9-7 is clearly within our reach.

Still skeptical…although I do like the idea of returning to the WCO.
Does this mean we keep Westbrook?

Losing Manusky will not prove to be a smart move.

Westbrook is a free agent, he can go where ever is the best opportunity.

5decadefan, I was thinking the same thing about MJ,maybe he would go to Stanford if he was given a choice

Harbaugh got to be calling the plays.

    Hey Lowell

Did Walsh call all of the plays when he was the head coach, how did he work with the offensive coordinators?

Lowell, could you/we do an article of speculation of who on the former 9er staff might be retained vs. who Harbaugh migh pick up from Stanford and around the NFL? I know you have covered it somewhat in general but…
IMO – Rathman has a chance to stick. Does anyone know where Dwayne (PeeWee) Board is currently? How about Bryant Young…he is currently at San Jose State.

    Thanks Lowell.

Walsh called every play. The offensive coordinators helped him make the game plan.

Hearing Walsh analyze the scripted plays and what they revealed about the opponents defense and how he would attack it would be facinating .

from Ringing Bill: “Most of our expertise exists in our own Mental Hall of Fame.” LOL That’s a nice way of stating a simply fact, Ringing Bill.

Yes. I know that Westbrook is a FA.
My question is, now that we are returning to the WCO–do we re-sign him?
Can’t get a vet more schooled in the WCO than Westbrook.
