Mike Martz is doing a marvelous job with the Chicago Bears, who will play in the NFC Championship game. He adapted his way-out offense to the Bears’ personnel and has done wonders with QB Jay Cutler.

I bring this up to praise Martz but also to point out Mike Singletary dumped him fast upon taking over as 49ers coach. Instead, Singletary went for Jimmy Raye who doesn’t know one-tenth of what Martz knows. What Martz is doing now is further proof of how limited is Singletary’s vision, how thorougly mediocre he is. Some of the blame for dumping Martz without an adequate replacement also goes to Scot McCloughan. The Bears are proof  of how those guys loused up.
