Before the Niners game starts I need to get in my 2 cents about Floyd Mayweather. The question is whether he did wrong by clocking Victor Ortiz when Ortiz did not think they were fighting.

Mayweather did the right thing. Or more correctly he didn’t do the wrong thing.

Ortiz had blatantly and intentionally fouled Mayweather by ramming his head into Mayweather’s. The ref Joe Cortez separated them and deducted a point from Ortiz. Ortiz kissed Mayweather as a form of apology. The ref brought them to center ring to fight. Ortiz hugged Mayweather and when he stepped back Mayweather knocked him out.

In boxing protect yourself at all times. Ortiz didn’t. The ref had indicated they could fight. Mayweather wanted to fight instead of hug. Mayweather owed no special sportsmanship to a guy who had head butted him.

The ref wasn’t even looking at the knockout moment. He was clearing something with the timekeeper. Terrible work by the ref. When you call two fighters to the center of the ring to fight you watch. This is life and death. Everything that happened goes back to the ref and not to Mayweather.
