When I went to bed Tuesday night, I didn’t know if Carson Palmer will start Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. But when I woke up I read a quote from Raiders offensive coordinator Al Saunders that pretty much said Palmer is a lock to start. I’ll link to the quote in a minute. Saunders contradicted Hue Jackson who wouldn’t reveal anything at the Palmer-get-to-know-you press conference. These guys ought to get their signals straight. To read the news on Palmer click here.

NO doubt in my mind the day they made the trade-he’s playing this week. I would rather lose with Palmer getting familiar then with Boller. Just makes sense. The Raiders schedule is conducive to this quirk of chance…a vet QB’s cold start in the 7th week. If it was the Pat,Bills,Texans lined up..scary. But why pass up a chance for Palmer to sharpen..and if he’s rusty…there’s next week.
It has to be done no doubt at all. So far,Hue has done the very best job-the no hesitation I really admire.

And to that KNBR nitwit (L.K.) saying “He could get hurt” “Save Palmer”. The RAIDERS are hurt and they are paying Palmer 40MILL to SAVE them..and NOW.

I have to agree with Stan. It makes no sense to wait, unless . . . because he will be so new to the system, he can’t communicate effectively to the linemen and the rest to prevent a sack, or worse, an injury.

BTW, a one and a two (or one) is not too steep a price to pay for a proven quality starting QB, who is a definite upgrade over Campbell. Rookies take time to develop, and you can easily waste a No.1 on someone like Todd Marinovich, or the purple yurple QB, etc.

I wonder how much of the offense Palmer is going to be able to use with barely a week’s preparation. Definitely would be easier if they were playing the Dolphins, Colts or Rams.

And one more comment-WHERE the heck is everybody else?!-lol. I feel lonely seeing my name take up Lowell’s recent comment list…Neal,Max,guys?…

This move could swing either way. If Palmer throws a couple of TDs, the crowd will go absolutely crazy! However, if he looks bad and throws a pick or two, it will put a lot of pressure on him for the next game. It will be interesting seeing what unfolds.

It’s a long season, I would give him untill after the bye week. Why rush it, he is rusty, probably not in football shape, how is the arm (what if he has to sling it 40 times?) What about protection…. ability to call audibles, can he do that?)
seems risky, if Carson goes down then you’re are really screwed.

easy call there. Boller is terrible and not really any kind of option at all. I expect Palmer to be rusty and may not get into full stride for a month. Better to start the process now if he’s going to be playoff ready with this club.

Palmer is ready. He’s been playing as the Raiders on his Madden NFL game for weeks now. He is quite familar with the offense.

Like I said in the last thread…why not start Boller vs K.C.
    .
Makes much more sense to give Palmer the two weeks to get ready (K.C. game and bye week).
    .
I could start vs K.C. and beat them, they’re terrible!
    .
Again, just give to McFadden 30 times and don’t under any circumstances throw the ball.
    .
    Easy win.

Then just take a break for a week or so. The blog will still be here. As soon as a new blog is written you are on it no matter what time of day or night.
    .
I like Palmer starting. Why not ? And I do not think he will be a deer in headlights. He will just get tired sooner. I thought the punter threw a nice touch down pass Sunday. He should stay as the number 2 QB.

Here I am Stan, Krueger is so damn negative, the guy has a miserable existence, the few minutes that I listen to him with Gary, he will always say the opposite of what Gary says, really its time for the both of them to go, I would start Boller and then have Palmer come in at different times during the game, and work himself into the game.

I’m gonna jump in here, guys. I really like Gary. He makes me laugh and when I’m on with him he really knows how to bring out the best in me, such as it is.

In this case Lowell-no Gary bashing. He gets the whole point of what you do when your so-so starter on a strong team breaks his shoulder,THEN you sign a vet top ten QB like Palmer for huge bucks. You PLAY him. Kruger actually said sit him for six weeks. He gets injured? Hows that any different from any player? . Again,he was signed to Save the Riders NOW,not the other way around.

And Neal hit it. If Radnich says he likes sunny days,Kreuger comes back with he likes black clouds..on and on. KNBR would have been better off signing a intern in place of Krabby Krueger. Man,he don’t even like Lowell!-lol..sour dude, sour!

Was searching for info about Sundays NFL in London game when came across this mention of you and Grant in the Gardian newspaper in England. Have you seen it? Google NFL: five things we learned in week six. Check out comment #37. Since Stan asked about Max, he might find this comment interesting.

    Alright Max,represent’in for the COHNZOHN.
Carson Palmer married to a Mexican American wife? He’s now worth THREE first round draft picks!.I’m biased.

Krabby Krueger……..wha ha ha……good tag Stan……..yeah Kroog was delusional on KNBR today with his anti-Palmer talk……..it does seem that Gary’s run should come to an end soon, along with Ralph and Tom, but if the boring guys on 95.7 are the future of Bay Area sports talk, then please keep Gary, Ralph and Tom around another 10 years……

I agree with KauaiRobert (aloha!) on this completely. Unless the game plan is to hand the ball to McFadden 30-35 times, let Boller take the KC game (should be an easy one) and give Palmer 2 weeks to learn the system. Otherwise it’ll be the keystone cops on offense, and who knows what might happen?

I’ll go with the old cliché that they will start the QB that gives them the best chance to win. This means that Palmer will only start if he gets the terminology down to a point where they are all on the same page. You can have all the skill in the world, but it won’t help if you are playing a different play than the rest of your team. It sould be very interesting to see how this all unfolds.

I think some media/fans are getting cold feet. And Hue is playing with that. Palmer plays. What Hue doesn’t want is for Boller to give away a easy win..

  22. Stan

I PREDICT! First series? Kyle Boller trots on the field. After he’s hit his first fourth down and the Raiders punt?..the very next series Palmer appears to thunderous applause. Yeah,I think I’m on Hue’s wavelength.

    October 20th, 2011 12:15 pm

  23. Stan

One thing I’ve noticed in Hue’s coaching days so far is-when he goes conservative,in play calling or scheme or WHO he picks to play QB,the Raiders lose. The last game that he went so conservative before today’s opus was vs N.E…a loss.
Hue should have done what I said in playing Palmer. Fate even gave Hue a second chance to start Palmer in the second half…but he went conservative and the Cheifs put it away with 21-0,scoring the first time they got the ball after the half.
And Boller? Not even arena league talent.
