They held the annual Big Game luncheon today — I’m writing a column about it right now. All the main characters were there including Stanford coach David Shaw, a witty, alert, engaging, playful, serious, encouraging, smart man in addition to being a very good coach. One writer asked Shaw something about the BCS and deserving — I didn’t hear the whole question but I heard Shaw’s whole answer.

Shaw said, “BCS and deserving don’t belong in the same sentence.”

Agreed the BCS is a joke (a joke that makes a few people alot of money, which is why its still being told). But I do like my Tigers sitting at number 1.

    Shaw is 100% right.
The BCS is all about $$$.
That said, The Cardinal were totally out-classed by Oregon.
I wonder if Peyton is encouraging his team to win one or two now that he’s seen a different Andrew Luck on the field?
    Naaaaaa…the Colts are still sucking.
Shoot…even the lowly Dolphins who need him the most have two wins now.

re-tread story….nothing new here. It gets old, especially coming from Shaw after that Woody Hayes caliber game plan he threw out there on Saturday. You have Andrew Luck, one of the greatest QBs in Bay Area college history, and you run up the middle incessantly while the Ducks dance all over you and go up 3 TDs. He brought a stick to gun fight despite having a Howitzer in his holster. Nah, I don’t want to hear this stuff from Shaw this week. It’s obvious and bad timing as far as I’m concerned.

True. After Saturday, Stanford does not deserve to go to a BCS title game.

That quote is pretty impressive. How many Division I coaches have been willing to say that about the BCS?

But I guess the question is, would Shaw have said that had Stanford beaten Oregon last week?
