The Santa Rosa Press Democrat just posted my Sunday column which is not about Tiger Woods or the San Francisco 49ers or the Golden State Warriors. It is about, of all things, baseball, which starts gearing up in a few days. It is about the Giants, to be precise. For a contender, the Giants have a million questions confronting them and they’d better have positive answers for most of their questions or there could be trouble. In homage to the old Milwaukee Braves…the theme of this team is Timmy and Cain and Pray for Rain…

Pagan & Cabrera replace Burrell and Ross and Torres…ok…so what?

Neither Bud Abbott nor Lou Costello have any idea who’s on first…

Posey wasn’t Posey before he got hurt…

If the Dodgers get straightened out post McCourt it’s gonna be a long season in China Basin…

A lot of good questions. Bruce Bochy indicated on a radio program a week or two ago that Posey may split his time between catching and playing first base.
Don’t have answers for the other questions..will Sandoval be fat again?jWill Hough be puffing on cigs and out of shape?, will Brandon Belt be a nervous nelly?
Not sure why they let Keppinger go. He was very steady hitting and fielding. So they reward him by dumping him and by bringing in “question marks”.
I went to a Cardinal game in St. Louis last year and when I saw the batting averages of the ST. Louis lineup on the scoreboard I was incredulous. Such a contrast to the Giants with the worst offensive team in baseball .It was a reality check. The Giants need more bats period.

It seems pretty accurate! Glad to see that you are off the ‘Sabean is a genius’ or the ‘Giants are an elite franchise’ bandwagon.

Nothing has changed with the Giants. They don’t have bats. The big batting Cardinals became world champions only because they bolstered their pathetic pitching half way through the season. The big pitching Giants will have to buy bats half way through the season. We’ll just be holding our breaths as usual, watching 1 – 2 run Giant victories (and losses) and praying for more runs. Sandoval will soar. Alone.

No mention of Barry Zito, two more year’s left for this bank robber, they do need a 5th starter and I think Pill is better then you think he is for the first base position. The Giants don’t start hitting we are going to lose Timmy and Matt, these guys need runs and they got their World Series and now it might be best for them to go to a team that can actually hit, so they can improve their records. If the Giants don’t sign the Freak during the season I see Cain going to the Yanks or the Red Soxs. The yanks are in desperate need for a pitcher and it won’t change for next year.

Well, your presenting worst case..but if you present just average case..its a good team. Good enough to win the west. And who’s to say Sabean wont add more important pieces? or drop non functioning players and eat contracts?..He unlike Beane makes moves to win.

Just think,if you gave Beane a team made up of the best all star and future HOF players in baseball..he would trade them all away for prospects. That’s not a joke..a real and truly logical conclusion of Beane’s motives.

Lowell: The Giants should begin the transformation of Posey from catcher to first base this spring; give Crawford the SS job until he proves he can’t hit – who knows maybe he will blossom at the plate this year, especially if he knows the job is his. Hard to play $11 mil to a back up and a part-time right fielder, but that’s better than watching you know who ground out to second 50-60 times this year with runners on base. Sanchez is problematic, but he’s the 2nd baseman until he goes down. And, finally can Theriot play 2nd? If so the Giants should have him work there this spring.
