The Marlins were so excited they could get Ozzie Guillen to be their manager. He’s good looking and well spoken and he’s quite a character. Surely, he would attract a crowd. And he’s also a good manager and he’s from Venezuela and having a Spanish-speaking manager surely would attract the local Cuban population to Marlins games. It was a match made in heaven.

Until Guillen shot off his mouth to Time Magazine, saying he loves Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and admires his ability to stay in power so long.

Excuse me. He said THIS in Miami where so many people hate Castro, where Cuban expatriates see him as a cruel dictator who destroyed their lives and broke families apart. In Miami, Castro is pretty much seen as the devil by a large part of the population, and Guillen went out of his way to praise the guy. Many Cubans in Miami, rightly, saw that as a big screw you to them. And now Cuban groups want him fired, for good reason, and the Marlins suspended him for five games.

Guillen says he can make everything right. Good luck, Ozzie. You and your big mouth ruined your relationship with the fans after only five games. Nice work.
