The Giants just issued this statement from Aubrey Huff:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 27, 2012

Statement from Aubrey Huff

“Thank you to the fans, media and Giants organization for the outpouring of support during this very difficult week. I’m especially grateful for the texts and calls from my teammates, who are like my brothers and have let me know they’re here for me.

My goal is to get back on the field as soon as possible. To do that, I have to focus completely on getting well. I know I’m in a public job, and I’ve been one of the more open guys. But sometimes you have to pull back and work on things in private. This is one of those times.

I appreciate your understanding and patience.’’

Huff even perplexes his teammates. I know last year somebody-a local writer- said that Giants were rolling their eyes as they listened when Huff wasn’t hitting and gave some baloney to the media.
I get the feeling that Huff isn’t used to large applause like he got for 2010..and he’s not used to being singled out, like last year and this year for blame. He’s been for his career pretty much just another journeyman on another team.
If I was writing fiction,I might create a goodhearted blowhard, drink’in redneck character who finds his tales when he hits it big are seen for what they are. It might be based on facts too.
