This is the story that just won’t die. Cam Newton was given a chance by a reporter to respond to Alex Smith today — to Smith’s comments pointing out that Newton and the Panthers scored a lot of points but didn’t win a lot of games last season. This was so out of character for Smith who is a gentleman, taking a gratuitous shot at someone else. Anyway, Newton did not fire back, which is admirable.
