I am sitting in the press box at AT&T Park at about 11 am, and it seems the Giants-Cubs game will go on. The rain stopped. The sky is clearing. The grounds crew is working on the outfield, although the infield is still covered. Players are throwing in the outfield. The place is coming alive. I love the scene before a baseball game, even on a rainy day. I sit here and I swear I feel honored to cover this stuff, to be doing this of all things. My dad who was a lawyer wanted me to be a lawyer — my dad was a wonderful man — but I wanted to do this. And I made the right decision for me. I really did.

Pablo
What makes you feel honored about covering sports, instead of being an attorney?
Just curious.

Just like your paper bills you as “Never running short of things to talk about”..Ma Nature “Never can be predicted 100″…Rain in June. Nice that I was thinking of watering the tomatoes early this morning…the rains came farther south then I thought.
Too bad Lincecum isn’t pitching. This Seattle weather would get to the 8th for sure…

Pablo, first of all, I love writing. I get paid to write. I’ve made a living being a writer. Wow. Also, being a lawyer would be interesting, no doubt. But what I do is more unusual. I get to write about an unfolding drama every day. And I never have to wear a suit. I don’t even own a suit.

I once typed into Google “Why don’t I see the missing word until I hit post?”..thinking I have Alzheimer’s or the like…Turned out: It’s just falls under Human mistakes,no more or less.
So now you know.

My guess is that if you were to get a suit, it would be smaller, now that you’re working out on a stationary bike.
How many minutes are you up to, now? Does the device say how far you’ve pedaled, if so, how far? I’m trying to gauge the intensity of your workouts.
Lastly, in what way is exercise affecting your sleep? Is it making you zonk out earlier?
Exercise does that for me.
Curious again.

You a lucky dude! Going to ball games and make a living talking and writing about it. Beats lawyering any day.

Pablo, I enter the “fat burn” program on the bike. I enter that I’m 66 years old. Yesterday, I pedaled hard for 35 minutes. I burned about 180 calories and went about 14 miles. Then I did a five minutes cool down. I would like to get to an hour soon.

Do you have any siblings?
Did your father ever come to terms with your chosen profession? and if so, how did he convey it?

Tiburon Dave, I have an older brother who is a retired doctor. I have a younger sister who ran a preschool in Vienna, Va for many years. Both my brother and sister live outside Philly. My dad and mom were proud I became a sports columnist, were very supportive. They were the best.

Lucky in life is the man who loves his work. It doesn’t get any better than that.

It was such a pleasant day at the ballpark. On the ground ball that Castro thought was the third out, when there were only two outs, the radio guys (I was alone, so I watched and listened to my earphones) said that part of the blame belonged to Samardzija, the Cubs pitcher, for throwing so many balls. The radio guys said that he lessened the concentration of the defense. What do you think? Would you relieve Castro of some of the blame?
On the Caltrain rides up and back the train was full of kids. It was wonderful.

mendozaline, blame aside, I don’t think Castro could have completed the double play anyway. I’m glad you had a nice day.
