OK, you’re a coach in the NFL and you have one game you must win for whatever reason and you have a choice of any current quarterback you want. Which one do you take for that game?
I take Aaron Rodgers. He’s a dead accurate thrower. He’s brave. His ball travels fast. He’s inventive. He’s really something.
Who do you pick and why?

Bray
For me, it hinges on who else is playing with him, the defense and who is this ‘mythical team’ playing.
Some QB’s are much better suited to coming back from being down {risk takers} and others are better at holding a lead [game managers]. What skill is ‘better’, everyone will have a different answer, I say it depends on the ‘rest of the pie’.
Football is the ultimate tean sport, complete organization and synergy is needed for the TEAM to be succesful.
That being said, if I had to pick any QB to be on MY team, it would probably be Rodgers as well. I think Brady and Brees are great, but they are a little more of a system QB. I’m not sure Brady would be as good, in say Mike Martz’s 7 step drop 4+ second play calling scheme.

I have to go with the NY Manning. He beats everybody in the big games..Joe like. Rogers wants to bludgeon his opponents..and if he can’t gets frustrated.

Joe Montana. I know he’s older than dirt, but I bet with a little brush up and some Tylanol, he could still beat most teams…

Great question Lowell. I’d still take Brady, even after the SB loss, and the numbers agree. Highest winning percentage of all time at .780 (higher than Montana).

I agree with what Bray says about who is on the rest of the team. So without knowing who is on my team I would go with Stan selection of Eli. Eli just seems to get it done without a whole bunch of stats or fanfare.

I would take Eli over anyone, the guy is clutch.

tough one, but I’ll stick with the first QB that came to mind when I read this….Brady!

Lowell- The title says “Best QB in NFL” but your question is…
“you’re a coach in the NFL and you have one game you must win for whatever reason and you have a choice of any current quarterback you want. Which one do you take for that game? ”
I believe there could be 2 answers. If you had to win one game, that would be considered ‘Most clutch QB in NFL”
Eli is a great pick and I would agree, but on the other hand I don’t think for a minute that he’s the ‘Best’.
There’s a huge list of GREAT players that don’t ‘shine’ in the big moment, just like there are tons of average guys who when the chips are down play their very best.
Mark Lemke anyone? Phil Simms? [I can't stand that guy]
Ken Stabler, average to below average most of the time, but when you really needed him, he was a stud.

You nailed it, Aaron Rogers is the best. For all the qualities you detail. And his personality seems to have everything in all the right proportions. I’d guess he’s a great teammate.

Eli…
Not one of these guys make that throw to Manningham.
He looks like Gomer Pyle, isn’t married to a Supermodel, and he’s beaten Tom Brady in the Super Bowl twice.
No one can touch him.

I’d take Alex Smith. (Just joking.)

I go with Eli Manning. He always plays his best when the stakes are the highest.

No question that I take Rogers as long as there is not a bye between games. The Packers were horrible after that bye week also because the last game of the season saw the Packers voluntarily bench too many of its starters. 21 days off between games is too much down time and it showed. Timing was off; too many dropped balls, and a horrible performance especially on offense.

Grant agreed with me. Time to cut him off the will Lowell…lol.

Has everyone forgotten Peyton Manning? IF he can still play up to his old standard he would be my pick. If he can’t … well … it wouldn’t be my first bad pick.

Drew, N.O. Saints, Aaron, GB Packers, & Brady, of the N.E. Patriots are currently the best QB’s…imo

Eli Manning.
When I saw the NY Giants play the SF 49ers last year, I noticed how EM could get absolutely hammered by the defense, readjust his shoulder pads, wipe the mud and grass off his facemask, go back to the huddle and throw a bullet to his target.
This guy is tough. Tough like John Elway.

Eli vs Rogers is like Joe vs Marino reincarnated.

For that ONE game.
At his best… Brady. You couldn’t beat him.
Today, gotta go with Alex Smith (I mean, his analysis- RESULTS TRUMP ALL ELSE)
So, it’s Eli. He’s the new Montana, you can’t beat him.

Let’s put it this way. If you were a captain for a pickup football game and all 32 NFL QB’s are lined ready to be picked, you guys are saying you would pick Eli first?
I just don’t see that in any way, shape or form. Alex outplayed him in the NFC championship for christ’s sake. Now, Eli’s WR for sure outplayed Alex’s WR’s. Don’t forget that all important factoid.

I am jaded, but Ben Roethlisberger. Nobody is better at extending and making a play than him. None of the QB’s you have mentioned above would have been able to do what he has done the last two years behind the O line he had to deal with. And last year he still gave his team the chance to win on one leg. Two SB wins and an third appearance with Brady having beat him once to get there as well. And he has more come back wins than any other QB in history and how can you argue with the pass he made to Santonio Holmes to win the Super Bowl. Manninghams catch was good, Holmes was off the chart onreal and Ben got the ball there where only his guy could make the play. that is my guy.
June 7th, 2012 12:27 pm
Bray
Sorry to break it to you Dave T, but Big Ben isn’t even close to the most comebacks is history, he isn’t even half way there. He has 19, Elway has 47 and there are many in between them.
Shoot, Alex Smith had 6 last year.

I go with one and only Joe Montana
