I keep reading that Tim Lincecum is making progress and is getting better. Really? All I know is the Giants have lost 10 of his 12 starts. I also know he cracks up in at least one inning and puts the Giants in a hole, which is exactly what he did Tuesday night. I fully expect him to improve this season, but right now he is the black hole of Giants starting pitchers. No?

He trying to get his 165 pound body or less, do what his 180 or more pound body did. It doesn’t sound like much..but as I (And Ann Killion and Krueger)have said, its that constant diet-then gain it right back that’s unhealthy.
Romo,Zito are rails too..but they aren’t yo-yo with their weight.
I wouldn’t doubt that after saying he lost 20 in the off season..then 10 more after the season starts…he’s gaining the weight back after so many losses on the field. In 2010..that’s what he did. People tend to repeat their mistakes.

The greater question is why do you have 10 blog posts this season on Lincecum, and only 1 on Vogelsong and Bumgarner combined?

Yes! I think this is his year to make adjustments, maybe weight wise or mental…but he is a tough guy and will compete. Can not believe he won’t salvage the season…at least that is my hope for the him and the Giants

No…
This is a four run lineup.
If you give up 4 or more you lose.
He’s not up to that standard this year.
Did you see Posey yelling at him in the 2nd?
It looked like Costner in Bull Durham.

Losing 20 pounds on a frame that can ill afford it signals that something is wrong. Here is a young man that trashes his rental apartment, gets caught with marijuana, and has a lousy spring and regular season–so far.
It seems to me that he and Panda are having fun living the good life and not taking care of themselves. Babe Ruth once remarked that, Aw, a fella has to have a little fun.
Maybe, but I hope they wake up before it’s too late.

Great point.
This is the spin of the Giants PR machine.
Same type of starts over and over.
There has been no ‘progess’.

Brady, I wonder if you can answer your own question.

No.
Listening to Krukow make excuses and talk
about how “right” he looked in the 4th ining,
is infuriating.
He is our least effective starter, all season,
and having a couple of “cominant” (Krukow again) chanes nothing.
Thank goodness he is only signed for two years.

His stuff is simply worse. I mean, that’s the main issue. He used to throw mid 90′s, now he doesn’t. He’s never really been a huge control type pitcher, just look at his the walks he gives up. The lack of speed on the fastball also gives hitters time to recognize the junk he throws out of the zone and lay off. If he’s ever a dominant, “best pitcher in baseball” type of guy again, it won’t be from using his old pitching technique. He has to adapt or he’ll continue his crappy pitching.

Lincecum is lost right now. The only ones saying he is making progress are on the Giants payroll, and I don’t think even they believe it.
He has officially replaced Barry Zito as the most over paid player on that roster.
You asked the question earlier about trading a pitcher for a bat, and if this keeps up it would be good to see them part ways with him before he really breaks down and becomes a drain on the organization.

I don’t see any progress whatsoever. But if you listen to Krukow you would think all is well in Giant-land.
The only progress I see is how the batters have adjusted to him.. They ignore his junk pitches (which he is having trouble locating) and they sit on the fastball which is no longer so fast anymore. Major league hitters can hit the fastball…see fastball ..hit fastball.. unless it is around 94 mph or higher which I beleive he is not capable of throwing with his skinny body or worn out arm. He has been a warrior for years but right now he is physically challenged.

Lowell, as far as I can tell, you enjoy writing more about the news fans don’t want to hear, then the news fans do want to hear.
there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, I just find it curious.
As an extreme optimist, I’m much more intrigued be the overachieving Giants than by the overpaid ones (but then again, they all fall into the latter category, I suppose…)

He seems lost and has that same “deer in the headlights” look that Zito had the last few years. Maybe he needs to go see the same guy that Zito saw in the offseason to get it all straight? If playoffs started today I think the Giants would be a wildcard team and Cain starts that 1 game Wild Card playoff, then you go Baumgarner, Vogelsong and Zito and Lincecum out of the pen. Who knew at the beginning of the year that would be the case? Anyone??
