I keep the level of discourse high on this blog. So, I’m taking a chance here — for a reason. Two photos of a man who appears to be Andris Biedrins have gone viral on the net. They are X-rated photos. I will not describe them and I will not tell you how to access them. That’s not my job.

My job is to draw a conclusion. If this man really is Biedrins — he’s sure a dead ringer — he is doing something compromising. The Warriors should sanction him or at least criticize him. But they can’t. Why can’t they? Because their coach Mark Jackson apparently sent some pretty compromising pictures of himself to a woman with whom he conducted an extramarital relationship.

The Warriors have not sanctioned Jackson and that means they cannot sanction Biedrins or anyone else on the team who conducts this kind of behavior with or without the photos.

In other words, on issues like this the Warriors have forfeited their moral standing.

I think its interesting that you even bother posting this. Why? You’ve already made up your mind so why even bother asking a question you draw your own conclusion on? I guess it might be different if you were asking for people’s thoughts but since you don’t respond to anyone who does comment guess I’m drawing a blank as to why I’m even bothering leaving this.

2 sides to the coin: A LOT of people have criticized the 9ers for taking on Cox (who most feel is a rapist) and LaMichael James who some know has been guilty of domestic violence. By contrast the 9ers passed up potentially better if more riske WRs in favor of the harder working AJ Jenkins.

My conclusion? It’s all about the work ethic of the team, but if the Ws found a way to prove it was Biedrins and could somehow get rid of him that way i’m hard pressed to believe they wouldn’t jump on it. Anything that doesn’t involve getting rid of him entirely can’t help the club get better and might only drag their work ethic down.

That was obviously a hooker. That’s embarassing, c’mon Andris! The picture of him smoking says it all. He doesn’t care about his body, he doesn’t care about anything. Joe Lacob really blew it by not amnestying him.

I hate Biedrins as a player, but I don’t really see what his private sexual behavior has to do with anything, or what about it merits a sanction. As far as I know there has been no suggestion that anything he did was not consensual. Are we still living in the San Francisco Bay Area?

Does ‘to sanction’ mean ‘to get rid of without paying’ ?
If so , sanction them both, and I don’t care if it really wasn’t Biedrins.

It took two clicks to see the photos of a Andris using his Warrior money in the off season. Interesting that site also has interest in Heroin,Cocaine and Marijuana.
It’s time for Joe to clean house of his mistakes..Mark Jackson, and Beidrens. And win first before concentrating on pie in the sky cathedrals of basketball

ollie hoop, in what sense was this private? It happened in the street. It’s on the web. Please explain to all of us the nature of the privacy in these photos.

Is he married ? Because I am not sure what the issue is. This is the facebook generation. They let everyone know about everything. Deal with it.

Great post Lowell. I think this all began when the team failed to sanction Monta Ellis back in December for the sexual harassment complaint that was brought against him by a team employee. A team employee, might I add, that also accused ownership of being complicit in the cover up. Then the owner’s son is allegedly named in a complaint brought by former team cheerleaders and instead of being sanctioned, he was promoted. To assistant GM!! Geez. And the Warriors dealt with both lawsuits not by taking responsibility and promising to change the culture in the organization, but by summarily paying off the victims so they would be quiet. What kind of message does that send to the rest of the organization? I think it send this message: anything goes around here. There is no way that they could decide to take the moral high ground and punish Mark Jackson after failing to bring any action against the others, right? And wow, those Biedrins photos — they look like something out of “The Accused.” They are really, really disturbing. I’m just disappointed in that whole group over there. This bad stuff just keeps happening. Who is enabling this?? And what new horror is coming next? I’d hate to guess….

Assuming it was Biedrins, he’d have to do this kind of thing two or three times a day until he turns 75 before he catches up with his fellow Warriors center Wilt Chamberlain.

    It’s all about the W’s.
I didn’t look nor do I want to. It’s about choice when it comes to viewing content. Like i choose to read and participate in your blog. I question the morality of those who choose to view the content since its different than mine, I’m not saying it’s wrong, just different. We have many vices available, but our choices separate us.

LC, since you ask: as these pictures seem to be from several years ago (based on his spiky hair, for one thing) and are only coming out now I don’t think the activity was particularly public, and I think it’s a leap to assume that from the photos. I presume that Biedrins didn’t put the pictures on the web or expect them to be put there.

Needless to say, it’s stupid to allow such pictures in the first place, and I wouldn’t engage in this kind of behavior myself, but I don’t see that it merits sanction several years after the fact from a basketball team. Much as I would like Biedrins off the Warriors, I don’t think employers should pass judgment on the sexual behavior of their employees.

I don’t think this rises anywhere near the level of what Jackson did, which involved cheating on his wife and paying extortion, required the intervention of the FBI, and exposed his fundamental hypocrisy.

…at the very least the warriors should be leveling with their fans, and that means saying something about these text-photos….it could that in Biedrins case that the texts were from the past before he was a Warrior, but something should be said about that if that were true… I would respect the Team more for being bold and upfront….

Memo to Larry Riley: You seem like a decent man. No wonder you were demoted by these heathens. Get out of this Sodom and Gomorrah of an organization while your reputation is still intact. And we all thought Chris Cohan was bad. At least we had Nellie, who was always entertaining in a regular guy kinda way.

If there are any doubts about the validity of it being Biedrins in the photos, in the one shot of him with a couple of friends I could identify Zarko Cabarkapa…remember him?…a buddy of his from the ’06-07 “We Believe” team.

I see X rated photos of Biedrins 82 times a year when he shows up dressed in a Warrior uniform at game time. The x-rated stuff occurs after tip off.

“Moral standing”? Are you still living in Eisenhower’s America? And why sanctions? This standard promotional behavior in Lacob’s metier of Hollywood productions. It’s not like Biedrins has any basketball value, or like anyone believes MJ’s hypocritical preaching style is anything but a self -righteous sham, or that he’s really a winner.

Neal hits it. The culture of basketball is tatoos and strippers. It starts in high school and continues from there.

It matters because athletes, like coaches, can be blackmailed to satisfy any number of demands; demands which may include point-shaving. Mark Jackson made at least 1 payment to blackmailing amateurs before eventually coming clean. Can’t imagine Biedrins refusing Vori V Zakone or even lesser Russian/Baltic/Eurasian mobsters once they smell blood.

It wouldn’t matter or at least matter less if commercial consensual sex were “officially” legalized where currently prohibited (thus reducing exposure and vulnerability to blackmail) and/or monogamy was less a matter of moral institutionalization than practical (i.e, hygenic, emotional) choice.

Like athletes (well known, and liked) haven’t engaged in that behavior since the beginning of time.

He got caught in the act.

He just doesn’t care anymore, he knows he’s got no game and that everyone loathes him.

They really just mishandled this guy. Should’ve dumped him when they had the chance.

latopia, You have got to score points inorder to shave them. No worries. He wasn’t that good when he was good. Hey, wait a minute. Maybe you are on to something after all! Maybe he has been shaving points these last 4 years. Who knew?

Put Beidrens on the court in front of an arena full of people and with a ball in his hands and he has “performance anxiety” can’t score..put him in a car in the street with a hooker, and the b—- in her hands, and surrounded by a crowd of people and camera’s..He scores.

    Just the Warriors damn luck.

To me…any press is good press at this point.
    .
Beans is a Warrior (at least for now) and the Warriors need press because nobody really cares right now.
    .
If Beans can begin a porno career, good for him.
    .
    He certainly can’t play basketball…

Obviously he’s not practing free throws whiles he’s in Latvia…maybe he and Mark Jackson can do a threesome and management can then get rid of both of them! Good riddance to one lousy basketball player and one pompous coach!

great cohen piece here. We need to have biedrins exposed for who he really is. the warriors organization throughout his career have backed him and people like bob fitzgerald and his teammates have spoken about him now being a great father and a changed man.

This goes directly to how he treats basketball and his personal life. It’s a total legit topic to discuss. He’s getting paid tens of millions and he’s out making a jerk of himself.

I can’t believe this is a thing. Who cares? And how does anyone know how busy the street was or anything? Sexual repression is the norm in the US but in Europe? Not so much. Sanctions for a guy enjoying life? Whatevs, man. Sanctions for cruddy performance on the court, THAT I can get behind. Sheesh, people. Get your priorities straight.
