The New York Yankees just did something disgusting. They barred Reggie Jackson from having contact with the team for an indefinite period. They banned Jackson for saying Alex Rodriguez will have trouble getting into the Hall of Fame because he admitted using PEDs. As you know, I wrote a column about this. I said Jackson was right to say what he say, and a wimp to apologize. His apologies got him nothing. Now he’s banned. The Yankees, apparently, can’t allow someone to speak the truth. Very bad culture over there. Arod, in fact, will not get elected to the Hall of Fame. Self-confessed cheater. To read an article about Jackson and the Yankees, click here.

Over the weekend Lowell,I heard a Yahoo sports host-speaking in that rat-a tat, fast car salesmen voice say “I know backwater city’s will pull stunts to get a local player into the All Star game. Pablo Sandoval didn’t deserve to be the starter”…
It was like every stereotype of east coast bias…and so was banning Reggie..just predictable New York centric sports fanaticism. When timed right-like with Jeremy Lin,its fun…
With Reggie too is..he was a friend of A-Rod. Like I said in my other post,Reggie had years to think about this question he knew was coming. Can Reggie be THAT pompous?

I agree. It’s nonsense/disgusting. On the other hand it reflects today’s world.
One thing I’ve known my life is that once I started working for a company/organization, I lost my right to free speech. It’s no different for Reggie. Today, people are fired for what they post on Facebook let alone for being quoted in national media.

Jeeeez, modern sports is just getting too complicated. It’s like watching political talking heads on CNN/FOX now. I think I need to join a beer softball league again and get my fix that way.

I concur with lameduck’s comment. Does make you wonder about the Warriors, though. Far more egregious behavior permeating the organization, yet they do nothing. Btw, if you want even more insight into the Yankee culture, I suggest reading Damn Yankees, edited by Rob Fleder. It’s a collection of 24 essays by some fantastic writers.

since Reggie’s attempt to kiss and make up was
ingnored, I wonder if he regrets that now too?

Read your article in PD this morning at breakfast. Very impressed with your position and RJ’s original honesty.

Maybe Reggie should come back to Oakland.

When people are punished for speaking the truth, it’s time for all of us to stand behind them. Too often, we see good people besmirched by the powerful.

    Enough!

Same as every Twitter/Facebook controversy: Corporations want faceless drones, except maybe the CEO. They also believe the CIA has lax security, so they bring the big clown hammer whenever the “brand” is threatened, never mind that they action usually make things worse.

Like Stan says, it’s the NY state of mind. They always talk about how tough they are, but the temperature rises a little and we can’t get away from the hysterical stories. One hundred degrees ain’t sheee-it, whiny wankers! When global warming finally floods out the Boston-NY-Washington megalopolis and SoCal shears off into the cool serenity of Arizona Bay, the world will be a quieter, better place. I’m off now to work on the San Andreas fault with a crowbar, to try and get this thing started.

I never liked Reggie Jackson. He had a reputation way back when for treating the average fan like …sh…t. I don’t want to hear his opinion on Alex Rodriquez either.
