Terrific first half for the 49ers. Dominated the Packers with their defense and offense. And Harbaugh even had fun at the end, putting in Kaepernick for a QB draw — 17 yards. And with 2 seconds left, Akers hit 63-yard field goal, tying league record. The Niners are having fun in Green Bay.

I sure would have liked to see them go downfield at the end of the half and try to get a TD.

The record ties Dempsey and Elam. Dempsey kicked his in the SuperDome, Elam a mile high in Denver. That makes Akers’ most impressive by default – off grass at sea level.

Whoops – forgot Janakowski’s last year, also in Denver.

Dempsey’s was outside, not in the dome.

“Dempsey’s was outside, not in the dome.”
That’s right, it was pre-dome. Tulane Stadium?

Can’t argue with winning but part of watching football is to enjoy it and while Moss’s #s today are nothing to sniff at and it was great to see him get the TD, I surely would like to see the Nineers cut loose with long passes to this Hall of Famer, who appears to be entirely ready to haul them in.

Green Bay has an elevation of 581 feet. nowhere near mile high, but not quite sea level. It is about 1,500 miles from Green Bay through 4 of the Great Lakes and down the St. Lawrence to the sea.

Quick question, Lowell–are you be willing to admit just how foolish your column looks today? Alex Smith played well last year, very well; his touchdown to interception rate was remarkable, he outplayed Drew Brees in the playoffs, and he lead his team to the NFC championship, a title game they would have won without the godawful performance by Kyle Williams (and the ST coach who left him out there for that second fumbled punt). Now Alex Smith outplays and defeats Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in Green Bay, perhaps the hardest place to play in the NFL, particularly over the last few years. So…any thoughts? If nothing else your timing of this latest column will keep your readers entertained for many days. Many thanks.

I’m happy to entertain people. Smith clearly outplayed Rodgers.
