The team lost a 3rd baseman, three starting pitchers, was expected to lose a 100 games, is owned by Lew Wolff, had Cespedes out for a number of games, lost nine in a row, has a rotation all of rookies, etc. and they completed the greatest regular season achievement in Bay Area/baseball history. Give the man the award already.

Yes, by a landslide, but Showalter will win because of the East Coast bias.

I don’t necc. think Beane deserves the exec of the year award just because Melvin gets Manager of the Year. I don’t think they go hand in hand. He didn’t necc. put the team together to win, Melvin made them win. Yes, Beane put the team together the best he could; he signed Cespedes, Gomes and drafted and traded for all of those pitchers, but unless Melvin co-wins GM of the Year with him, which of course he can’t, something just doesn’t feel right about Beane winning it to me. At the same time, I’m also not sure who else is more deserving. Duquette or Williams? I dunno…I’m not downplaying Beane’s achievement or anything, something would just feel amiss about it. Melvin without a doubt though. Without a doubt.

Better yet, change the meaning of giving someone a “melvin” to something positive.

Anybody now who says Buck Showalter deserves to be AL manager of the year when Bob Melvin won his division and Buck didn’t should be admitted to the nut house. Also, the AL west was a better division this year than the AL east.

Even in Latin America you can hear it on the Spanish sports shows the word “Money Ball” or “Plata Pelota” When ever I think of Billy Bean I see Brad Pitt’s face. I’m sure Melvin already has the award wrapped up in most writer’s minds!

Agreed, but if anyone ever deserved honorable mention, it’s Buck Showalter. When was the last time the Orioles made the playoffs? Who thought they would this year? He picked the wrong year to have a remarkable season.

Ok,on Yahoo I’m reading of a fossil that was about 200 million years old..it resembled a walking Porcupine with hand claws and quills. So, one funny response was “I always wanted a bunny rabbit,I will name him George, and will pet him and squeeze him and..”. THAT was followed by others who said they really miss those old great cartoons..and why don’t they make them like that anymore, etc, etc…about the tenth post? a guy says “You idiots!,that’s not from a cartoon that’s from John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men!, I’m surrounded by idiots!”
    The net can be hilarious.

Seems obvious. Seems just as obvious that the East Coast bias will give it to Showalter. The A’s are a second banana team in the bay area, in terms of overall local interest, on the coast that routinely gets screwed out of such awards.

Melvin wins in a landslide………he’ll be the A’s manager for the nest 10 years……..I agree that Beene should not necessarily win exec of the year. Even Beane seems surpised by whats happen this season, which he wouldnt be if he thought the moves he made were goping to lead to a division title………….Still, it appears Beane has turned the corner finally as a legit GM and not some guy who got fame from a 20 game winning streak.
