Here is the opening to my column about the Giants’ loss to the Reds:

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants have trouble.

In Game 1 of the division series, the Reds lost their starting pitcher Johnny Cueto minutes after the national anthem, Cueto throwing a pitch and grimacing like someone shot hot lava into his back. Terrible way to start a series on the road. Just then you thought, “These Reds have trouble.”

The Giants were luckier than the Reds. They didn’t lose their starter. Matt Cain was healthy as a horse, but maybe that wasn’t good luck after all. He gave up two home runs in the first four innings, the first a two-run job on a hanging breaking ball to Brandon Phillips.

Anybody notice that a Cain at bat..seems to lead to his getting cuffed the next half inning? When he hit that liner..and had to run?..that was the setup he’s susceptible too.

btw Lowell..like many I pay a car payment to Comcast for bundles..and the A’s ARE BLACKED OUT. That’s a separate super package..and they can shove it.
A BLACKED PUT ROAD PLAYOFF GAME??…unheard of greed. And the A’s never put out a peep of protest.
I had a beat writer tell me once, the A’s promo dept is among the best in baseball.
    HUH???

The Giants pitching rotation is not anything close to 2010 right now, and there is NO closer.

Their pea-shooter offensive attack is not built to come back when the pitching falters. Posey can’t do it all by himself, and is anybody really confident that Sandofudge will get a big hit?

I will give the Giants this – they remain a scrappy bunch. If Casilla hadn’t crapped the bed in the 9th they may have pulled it out.

I just don’t see scrappy making up for lack of dominant pitching a feared sluggers.

    Reds will sweep.

    They’re in trouble alright…

They’re in trouble because the Reds have better pitching…

Cain didn’t get the calls on his pitches away to right handed batters and he was cooked…

Dusty’s putting his sacrificial lamb on the mound today but it doesn’t matter…G-men don’t take 2 out of 3 in Cincy…
