Good morning Zohners, I’m about to check out of my St. Louis hotel and fly home. Before I do, think about this. If the Giants get to the World Series, they will have three solid starters — Cain, Vogelsong, Zito. Who would be their fourth starter? Please give a reason.

Steve
Bumgarner, in game 4 with two weeks rest and Lincecum at the ready in the bullpen. No more starts for Lincecum. My rotation would be Zito, Vogelsong, Cain, Bumgarner. Another possibility would be Zito, Vogelsong, Cain and pray for rain, thereby eliminating Bumgarner from the equation. I can’t help thinking, my how the mighty have fallen.

Even though he has struggled somewhat this post season, I would go with Bumgarner. He earned it. Plus Lincecum seems to do better when he comes in short relief from the bullpen. GOOO GIANTS BABAYYY!

At this point I’d rather have Lincecum pitching than Bumgarner, but what I’d do if I were Bochy is stay undecided so you can use Timmy out of the bullpen in games 1-3 if need be. If you do, start Bumgarner in game 4. Otherwise, it’s Lincecum.

Hmm. I dont think of Zito as solid. He’ll start Game 1 of WS because of timing. Then Cain, then Vogey. Id go with timmy in game 4 because its Comerica Park which kills lefties

I think that Zito had a very good outing, but I woldn’t call him a solid starter. As for the 4th, I would go with Linsecum. I would tell him to start the game like he is going in as a middle inning relief pitcher, that he only needs to get us through two innings, but no more than three and see how it goes. If they follow my advice I would also recommend that they start warming up the bullpen before the game starts.

Timmy to the pen for long relief. Give Bum another start but have Timmy ready to bail him out quick.

Unless, you’re Righetti, monitoring Bumgarner’s side session, it’s literally not possible to know his condition. If Rags thinks he’s good to go, then it’s probably Zito and Bumgarner with Lincecum coming in the third inning of either game if they aren’t sharp.
The unfortunate problem is that both Cain and Vogelsong cannot start two each unless Vogelsong goes on short rest for game 2.

I think they have one consistent starter in Cain, and question marks the rest of the way down.
Vogelsong would probably be the #2, though reluctantly. He’s been hammered too often in the recent past. Bumgarner certainly has a tired arm, and Zito doesn’t much credit from me for his last start. (He had some shaky moments, and caught a few breaks.) Lincecum I won’t venture a guess about.
That mean Cain and pray for rain.

Don’t worry. They won’t make it!
If you’re counting ziti as solid you’re crazy!

Santa Rosa native Matt Riese will be back from the future in the Cove in the Delorean time machine–he says the Giants win it all!!

This one from above:
“Vogelsong would probably be the #2, though reluctantly. He’s been hammered too often in the recent past.”

This one from an article on CNNSI:
“The Giants have those two pitching in the right order, as well, as Vogelsong has out-pitched Cain since mid-September, going 3-0 with a 0.93 ERA in his last five starts.”

Lincecum and Bumgarner are both equally bad right now as starters. But Timmy appears to be pitching well out of the bullpen so I would start Bumgarner and then have Timmy at the ready for long relief.
