Here is the opening to my Monday column about how the Giants forced a Game 7 against the Cardinals in the NLCS and what it portends:
SAN FRANCISCO
This is the best possible story. It is a masterpiece. The Giants were almost dead and buried — you could see the gravediggers tossing dirt on their casket. And they came back to life. Not once. Twice. And tonight they are playing for an admission ticket to the World Series.

Boing back at ya! Cards are wilting against Giant pitching! And yes, Frozen Freese and Klutzy Kozma. Oh dear, if you’re a Cards fan. And where is RBI Master Alan Craig hiding? Pete Kozma has rocked as a rookie replacing Rafael Furcal – until his blunderous butchering last night. Still, just when you think the Cards are down with the jitters they fool you right back. I agree the Giants are in the drivers seat. But these are two clutch teams with their backs against the wall so tonight should indeed be a masterpiece. Can’t wait! Who will boing whom?

Lowell, after reading your column today over breakfast, I had to stop and clear my throat on this one sentence:
“The Giants were almost dead and buried — you could see the gravediggers tossing dirt on their casket.”
Excuse me, but I specifially recall you holding a shovel in your hand and pointing to a hole in the ground and mumbling something about the Reds and Giants a week ago.

Now,why not tue or wed or thurs?..at least let me read the Monday news of Sundays games. Makes sense. Why do they hate that?

As crazy as this sounds, if the Giants win tonight I think Hunter Pence will somehow, some way, play a key role. I had a very good feeling about last night’s game and this is the feeling I have about tonight.

As always, pitching and defense wins championships. The Giants defense has been steady and the pitching has been solid while the Cardinals have faltered. Should the Giants play to that formula tonite I really like their odds. And I see no reason for their form to change. Game 7′s are always tight and nerve wracking, no matter the sport, so it will be great theatre to see who plays to the moment and who folds under pressure.
