Here is the opening to my column about the Giants winning the pennant:

SAN FRANCISCO

Sergio Romo got the honor of finishing off the Cardinals, finishing off the National League Championship Series.

He came into the game in the bottom of the ninth, the Giants ahead 9-0, a slaughter. The rain was falling hard, the drops white pearls in the bright night lights. Puddles formed on infield, and the grounds crew was working near home plate and on the base paths, pouring dry dirt out of bags. Bruce Bochy’s black jacket was slick with rain. It was like playing baseball in a wading pool.

Those little red birds got devoured by hungry, cavorting lions. I never felt the insane energy in St. Louis from Cards fans that I felt in SF from Giants fans. Busch stadium wasn’t even full the night Zito pitched. The Giants and their fans wanted it bad, wanted it more. They were ready to die for it. Maybe Holliday’s hit on Scutaro, even if it was not intentional, was a catalytic moment for both teams. I felt ashamed frankly for the Cards at that moment because dirty ball isn’t what we do. It was a moment reminiscent of Posey at the plate last year. Fortunately there was no injury. But Scutaro was the Giant’s guy and they got pay back – by winning!

Lowell, in other sports do they spray so much champagne in the celebratory clubhouse or is this more a baseball thing?

mbabco, It absolutely is a baseball thing and I, for one, wish they’d stop it. I have to keep washing my clothes to get the champagne out of them.

Lowell-do you know if they use good champagne or the cheap stuff. It’d break my heart if they wasted all that good stuff.

These “fans” of your who bring up the Giant funeral post you did..well,none mention a day or so later you did “A cheerful thought”..about the Giants actually having a good chance to comeback. And then-they did.
Yeah, like you were the only one to think 3-1 was pretty bad…that’s normal. To look again and say “Wait a minute”..THAT’S talent!

Have you been given enough grief yet for burying them a few weeks back?

I have a hard time understanding this team. We’re not loaded in any category, though I’d say pitching is a strength. But it’s amazing to see see the mix of youth and experience gel like this again, with different pieces. This years Cody Ross? Marco Scutaro. Pagan has come up big and the youth has had some shining moments as well. I don’t understand how they gel like this at this time of year but I’m inclined to give Bochey and staff most of the credit.

Yo Stan, optimism on a recovery usually comes before the eulogy. And I am definitely a fan.

Lowell, make sure when you talk to Bochy to tell him that genius guy Stan says..to beat Verlander,is too get him out of his zone…BUNT!..MAKE HIM Field the ball,run,..WORK!.
The A’s did the dead man walk..1,2,3, yer out…never made Verlander break his rhythm.. Bunt, suicide squeeze, back to back bunts IF HE’S ON.
    It will work.

Lowell, I will give his due but he cost.the Giants a ton of money with his bad signings of players to name a few Rowand,Fredie Sanchez and Huff.If it was his money he would be broke.

I swear to 100% truth…Larry Krueger today said the Giants need to bunt. Radnich gave him a strange look.
I guess I SHOULD be flattered.. Well,I am.

AND today is a great day to do it…make Verlander both pitch and play slip and slide to the bunts…
