Here’s a shocker. Brandon Jacobs is inactive for today’s 49ers game against the Rams. Jacobs has not played a single snap. I think he’s a good big back. Why in the world did the Niners get him? Did he tick someone off?

Insurance. Competition. Gore & Hunter are just playing too good right now. If either of them gets hurt, they’ll be glad they have Jacobs.

Plus management really didn’t think Dixon was gonna make the team this year.

What IS up with this ? Can you please ask Professor H.

I think Hunter and Gore play more to the 49ers style. Our lineman often let the first man go so they move onto the second level, requiring our backs to make the first man miss. BJ is not as nimble as Gore and Hunter and I think this is why his running style does not play into our scheme as well. I think they brought him in purely to provide competition and depth. I also agree that the front office didn’t anticipate Dixon making the team.

ritzy, you are correct about Jacobs. He simply does not fit the Niners’ style. The real question is why they got him in the first place.
