Jim Trotter from Sports Illustrated just tweeted that Jim Harbaugh has named Colin Kaepernick his starter against the Saints on Sunday. Trotter said the decision is NOT health related. If this report is correct, Harbaugh clearly is impressed with Kaepernick and clearly is leaning in his direction as the Niners starting QB. If Kaepernick has a good game vs. the Saints I believe Smith’s days as starter are over. FYI, in the face of much opposition from readers and media, I predicted this move.

You also predicted the SF Giants were dead and buried. How’d that work out for you?

Nick, Does that mean Trotter’s report is wrong? Are you in a position to know if his report is wrong? What is your point?

I saw Jims buddy on Comcast sort of dismiss Scott Ostler with some comment about “all the young guys here” dont agree with you.Not a quote but what he meant.

Smith was never in the long terms plans of this team for good reason. Kap is a better player and should be the starter.

Don’t know if the story is true but I’d be happy to go along with that decision.

Kaep is getting the reps this week, right?

Actually, I have ultimate faith in Harbaugh, however he wants to manipulate us or the team. Whatever, the guy’s a genius, kinda (not to disrespect any past geniuses).

Hey, I predicted this move last week too. Got yelled at for calling Smith a bridge. Sometimes paying attention to details pays off.

If Kaep pans out and plays great the rest of this year do you see the 49ers trading Smith for draft picks before the 2013 draft? There are multiple teams with a horrible QB situation and the draft will be QB light. Smith is still incredibly young and could be serviceable for other teams.

Kudos Lowell, you’re the only one that I saw or read that called this. I thought you were insane, but was hopeful you’d be right anyways.

It’s late in the year to be making this change but it’s called for anyways when you see a performance like that on Monday compared to the conservative offense they have to run to tailor to Alex’s “skills”. The ceiling is so much higher now. They can run the whole playbook with Colin. We are far more dangerous and if we can score early as we did Monday, we unleash the best defense in the league on you. This last week was an awesome demonstration as to what that can look like.

Keep the TOS down Colin! That’s the one thing that could make this tough.

Given that Greg Roman is still saying that no starter has been decided, isn’t all this a little bit premature?

Yeah but, Lowell you don’t forget that the #1 priority of any great (or not so great) football franchise is to sell seats. And man oh man, those seats are getting mighty restless. If the powers that be feel that 51% of the fans want the Kap @QB, well then,… We the people can speculate, articulate and masticate to our little hearts content but… you understand.
