I love the McDonald area of Santa Rosa…you can ride your bike everywhere…to the Santa Rosa Junior College Campus, to local shopping centers, and mostly it is just a beautiful area for walks…esp. the old cemetary.

Used to bartend at the Rose Hotel when I went back to college in ’84. The Railroad district is pretty cool. I forgot old town in Sacramento. That’s definitely a cool place despite the best effort of the tourist trappers…

Bernal Heights, SF. Been my home for 25 years.
Diverse, tightknit community, beautiful views, good restaurants,
close to the Mission without the crime and crowdedness,
easy access to freeways. Agree with Capts about North Beach. Granville Island in Vancouver is one of my favorite places. If I ever move to Canada…

Ugh, North Beach is vastly overrated. Once the real Italians moved on, it’s become a yuppie den and a cultural wasteland.

I always loved the Mission District when I was growing up.

They had a great candy shop on one of the street corners that reminded me of the one in Willy Wonka.
