I can’t wait to see how well Smith does in Arizona except the problem over there is the defense , the offensive line and the coaching .
Skelton is better than Smith. Smith would be destroyed in Arizona.

Alex Smith is gone. Period. He’s been lied to and told he isn’t good enough (after setting three 49er passing/offensive records this year). Steve Young was quite good on the subject on KNBR tonight.

Harbaugh can try to tap dance as hard as he wants, but this is more like musical chairs, and he just pulled the chair out from under “his guy.”

You can bet that Smith and his agent will find the best situation possible to beat the 49ers (with Greg Roman in Arizona?); remember, he’s not much older than Kaepernick, and you could say he is highly motivated.

Good luck to him. The 49ers may find, as they did by letting Ronnie Lott and Charles Haley go, that karma’s a bitch.

According to Kawakami, the 49ers owe Alex a roster bonus of $7,500,000 in March. That’s a lot for a back-up.

I love having both of these guys on the roster in the event the
other gets hurt, and would like to keep them both next season.

Would we be paying too much to keep Alex as a back-up?
Certainly not, if Colin were to be injured or just sucked.

The Raiders will be paying Carson Palmer $13,000,000 by himself next season.

Alex would get a roster bonus in March of…..$1,000,000
Alex’s salary for 2013………………………………$7,500,000

Kap’s salary for 2013………………………………….$741,000

Tolzien’s salary for 2013……………………………..$555,000

Total for Niner’s QB’s ……………………………….$9,796,000

(Alex has the potential for an extra $3,000,000 in incentives,
but wouldn’t reach those as a back-up.)

(I have not included Carson’s or Alex’s signing bonus which
the teams have to pay whether the guy stays or not.)

I’m curious, Lowell–do you think the tone of this comment is playful or a dig? Why bother to kick the kid when he’s down?

It’s amazing to read the pleasure and contempt of so many people at Smith’s situation.

You like questions, so here’s another: do you think any of these folks remember what they thought of Smith’s talent after he outgunned Drew Brees in the playoffs (and saved his “great” defense the embarrassment of being humiliated all day by Brees)? What about against the Giants in the championship game when Smith’s team was up in the 4th quarter before the Kyle Williams’ fiasco?

Ten months isn’t that long ago, but memory loss is brutal.
