Here is the opening to my Friday column about David Lee:

This is about David Lee, who’s having his best season in the NBA. But it’s also how the West Coast offense in football leads to a good interview.

In the West Coast offense, the coordinator scripts several plays to start the game. Sure, he wants to succeed on those plays, but he also wants to see how the opposing defense responds. He is learning by calling certain plays.

Same goes for interviewing. I ask trial questions to see what my subject is like. I had a hunch Lee would be great.

Lowell, I am so glad you wrote this. A little balance for crying out loud. I love watching Lee play, his work ethic and motor are undeniable, and it has always baffled me how much hate he gets from fans and some certain journalists (whose names tend to start with “ka” and and with “wakami”). Is it just because of his contract, you think? Isn’t that strange that it should bother some people so much… it’s not their money, right? To me he’s the MVP of this W’s season so far… worth every penny and then some. And seems like a genuinely nice guy to boot.

I’m a big Lee booster. When you have a big tooth impale your bicep, and your crazy trainer puts a bandaid on the gushing blood and tells you “Go back out there”..and you DO?..your old school.
McFadden cant play for a month because of a “high sprain owee”.
