htwaits, No blame at all. I was describing his mood. He would take Akers' problems in stride and look for a solution. Actually, it seems you were the one assigning blame.

"Jimbo being Jimbo, he didn’t seem fazed that Akers is the worst kicker in the league."

ASM, I presume you can read. Where did I blame the coaching staff for Akers?

The column would be a bit nutty coming from a casual fan but it is hard to believe this is the insight from a sports writer drawing a paycheck. Good kickers are not lying around waiting to be signed in the middle of a season let alone during the playoffs. There was no reason to can Akers at the beginning of the season and by the time we figured out he was not the same probowl kicker it was too late. Left with no good choice what is the coaching staff supposed to do? Blaming them shows an astounding level of mediocracy in reading a simple situation or a personal spite that is fitting of non-entities who want to be taken seriously. Neither option is a good place to be in by the way.

It's always better to have someone leave for a better job than to fire them. If Roman gets another job the coaching legacy starts and he becomes someone elses problem.

Oh no, Mrs. Duck just broke a shoe after hours of getting ready to go out with pn amateur night. Off to be a hero:).

At this point, David has got to go.
Perhaps it is a mirage, but it seems like after he
kicked the 63 yarder, it was down hill from there.

No way the team would trust him in a close game now.

Your point about the relative fragility of the 49er offense
was accurate---the 49ers can ill afford to give away
3 points in the playoffs.

One characteristic of Harbaugh seems to be loyalty to his charges - he's probably too loyal to Akers & Roman. He stuck with Williams after the Giants game last year. That loyalty didn't seem to apply to Alex Smith, though.
