Grant and I fly to Atlanta early tomorrow. Killion made reservations at a restaurant for two writer groups. Grant, Phil Barber and I are in the slightly later group. Basically, we’re taking over the place. Killion said she’d have a nice bottle of red waiting for me and she has good taste in wine. These writer dinners are fun and one of the things I like about a road trip. We’re friendly with each other. We know each other well. We sit and eat and drink and talk. Sometimes we talk normal human talk. Sometimes we talk sports. I’m sure we’ll be talking Niners-Falcons. We’ll all be building up for the game. With us, it’s building up to write, getting an idea — which the game sometimes blows apart — preparing to receive our words and images whenever they are kind enough to present themselves to us. I am looking forward to Atlanta.
