Here is the opening to my Monday column about the Golden State Warriors:

It’s a curious thing about the Golden State Warriors. Every year, they get their time of scrutiny, a time when fans and writers look squarely at them. That time is now.

The NFL season is over — it extended longer than usual around here, the Super Bowl and all that. And baseball has not started. Which means the Warriors move to the center of the frame. We look at them. We notice things. We take stock. They are the story.

I’m going with slump. They probably aren’t as good as the first half season record makes it seem, but – and I never thought I would say this – they are in the process of building a competitive, if not championship level, team. Lacob, Myers, et al, inherited a mess, much like the McKenzie did with the Raiders. Unlike the Raiders, they have been very aggressive in making bold, albeit unpopular, moves. I think this bodes well for their future. These guys are sharp and Jackson is one hell of a coach. They may suffer a decline during the second half of the season, but I think they’ll make the playoffs, which would be a huge step forward.

The Warriors cant win if they don try. And this four game road trip was an outright full southern surrender,Lemmings over the cliff. Like those dead mice in traps..all they did was stare at you with big eyes as the other team scored at will.
They need more horsepower. For sure more willpower.

This team reminds me of the RUN TMC teams that Nelson ran out there for a few years…capable of beating anybody on any given night as long as they were rested and the other team wasn’t…

High energy works until you get tired…or you have to beat another team 4 out of 7…which is a problem unless the other team is from Dallas…

They’ll get the six seed and have a very short time in the post season…but hey…they fill the building whether they’re winning or not…

“… other Warriors teams we’ve seen and gasped at”. Lowell, that’s the best description of a losing team I’ve seen in years!

Calling it right now… The Lakers take the eight spot and the Warriors miss the playoffs with the ninth spot.

They look tired to me. Not surprising given the high level and intensity with which they played 47 games befor losing 5 straight. They can use the rest and recover from their injuries. They come back to play some weaker teams who they match up well against. One can only hope they match the intensity shown in the first 40 games in their final 40. I think this is a stumble and the team has good leaders in Jackson, Lee, Curry, Bogut and Jack to force them back on track.

The Warriors were packing the lane and letting teams beat them with the 3′s. That worked until they started playing teams that can make the 3′s. They then started to stretch their defense to defend against the 3′s and that is when their defense fell apart. I think they will make the playoff’s, but won’t get out of the first round. They don’t have the players that can defend the whole court.
