Cohn Zohn 49ers release David Akers Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 5:22 by CohnZohn You can hardly blame them. Be Sociable, Share! Tweet Comments 5 Comments Loneraider78 Being an NFL kicker can be the best job, or it can be the worst job–ever. I think Akers has experienced both sides. After that showing, and at his age, it’s going to be tough to find another job. Time to hang em up. March 6th, 2013 8:22 pm Bob In Portland He made about six million more than I did the last two years. Hope he’s invested well. March 7th, 2013 12:24 pm Johnc The only question I have is whether Akers had some sort of nagging injury during the season which affected his performance. I hope a reporter follows up and interviews Akers about what happened last year. March 7th, 2013 12:29 pm htwaits Johnc, He did. It’s been reported. He had surgery in February last year, and a recurrence during the season. As soon as this season was over he had another surgery. March 7th, 2013 7:52 pm Johnc Thanks for the Update htwaits. I would not be surprised to see Akers re-ermerge in the NFL provided his surgery is successful. I feel bad he is being dumped. Zitto came back from the dead and I think Akers will too.
