Here is the opening to my Saturday column about Bruce Bochy making roster cuts Friday morning. FYI, the Giants and Dodgers didn’t actually get rained out on Friday. The way I saw it, they got hailed out — what a storm here in the Valley of the Sun:

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.

Bruce Bochy drew a knife on me early Friday morning. We were alone in his office when he whipped out the shiv, he and I staring at the naked blade.

So much led up to that fateful moment of danger that could have changed both our lives.

Thanks for bringing us into the world of this complex and interesting man and thanks to him for allowing you to do it.

From humble West Virginia beginnings, a successful MLB career, a possible hall of fame manager, and even a wine afficianado.

All with a quite even tempered way that evokes the mythological John Wayne…right down to packing a weapon…

    Great way to begin Saturday…

I see Sam Elliot in the movie version pulling the knife on the Brooklyn tinhorn reporter. “Knives”,Sam/Bruce drawls “Go good with a cold brewed beer”. And then later for some reason Bruce/Sam plays baseball for the Boothill Arizona duelists.

Next summer ask Harbaugh if he’d share his thoughts on roster cuts with you.

    Yeah, right. Fat chance.

Who knew Bruce has a psycho side..?
    .
Keep your distance from now on.
    .
Then again…a media guy or two is a small price to pay for a couple more titles.

That was an interesting glimpse into what goes on at cut time and how it is handled .
The knife scene was funny too.
