Went out to dinner tonight in San Antonio with Ratto, Kawakami, Ostler, Marc Spears and Rusty Simmons, the exceptional Warriors beat writer at the Chron. Rusty’s parents Jim and Cindy joined us. Being on the road can be fun. I ordered a steak — come on, I’m in Texas — and the server recommended a Texas cabernet from Becker. I was skeptical because I’m a California wine snob, but what the heck. Ratto got a glass of the Becker too. And we both agreed it was excellent. I’m learning to be less provincial every day.
