I eagerly went to see Woody Allen’s new movie Blue Jasmine. I see everything Woody makes. I want to love all his movies and many I do love. I don’t love Blue Jasmine.

Kate Blanchett and Sally Hawkins give wonderful performances. Woody always writes good parts for women. And Blanchett should get an Oscar nomination for her work. But the script is ordinary, sometimes not so hot. The movie takes place in San Francisco, but all the men sound like they come from the Bowery in lower Manhattan. Woody does not have a feel for San Francisco.

The story is a combination of Tennessee Williams’ ‘A Streetcar Named Desire,’ and Jane Austen’s ‘Emma.’ I prefer the original works. By far.
