Cohn Zohn wine question Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 11:56 by CohnZohn Mrs. Cohn Zohn is making crab curry tonight. Not sure what wine to serve with it. I’m thinking champagne. Any ideas? Let us recommend Sonoma Valley’s Gloria Ferrier. December 31st, 2013 12:22 pm Andrew German Riesling or gewurtziminer December 31st, 2013 1:38 pm J Canseco A nice ale will go better with curry. That said if you’re set on wine, go with a white blend. December 31st, 2013 1:40 pm Michael I would go with Guwertztraminer. If you want less sweet try Reisling. Both are great paired with spicy and/or curry December 31st, 2013 1:44 pm Rob A dry to semi-dry (Between 12.5 and 13.5% alcohol) Reisling or Gevurtz would be perfect. Husch and Navarro (Mendocino County in Anderson Valley) make some of the best. But a sparkling rose from Roederer Estate or Schramsberg would make for a nice pairing too. Happy New Year, Lowell. Hope you won’t be following Padecky anytime soon. December 31st, 2013 3:26 pm Jimmy French Colombard December 31st, 2013 5:00 pm Albert Park Gewurtztraminer is great with spicy foods, but you’ll have to drink a lot of it to cover up the taste of curry, which I call Vishnu’s Revenge. Good luck! December 31st, 2013 5:11 pm Streetglide Perfect! And Happy New Year Lowell-san…or… Akemashite omedetōgozaimasu. Yoroshuku onegaishimasu… same thing. December 31st, 2013 6:01 pm Stan Kokyo Buffet in Hayward believe it or nut, often has – in season I suppose- King Crab as all you can eat. With friends and their wives, one could crack open those King legs and claws like an Olympic crab eater. She ate me under the table..well,so to speak. I like the Coconut shrimp too. BUT!!! Asian Delight in Hayward has the very best “Chinese take out food” I EVER ate. Cheap prices, long lines in a small store. I cant get how much they give you for the price..and its ALWAYS fresh..dumping it into the food basins as you stand there. Orange chicken that’s the best in the world. Melts like butter. Mind you- no pretensions of “authentic” But just a big take me back to the 60′s with great tasting takeout food, and nobody gave a damn about MSG or calories. Just flavor. The best at that in the eastbay. December 31st, 2013 6:28 pm Jim Marsters Lowell, it has been a pleasure reading your column over the past year. Hope you and Ms. Zohn have an excellent New Year. As far as wine pairing? I’m trying more Chablis. Chardonnay grapes, but a bit more minerality than we get from CA Chardonnay. Cheers. December 31st, 2013 7:00 pm CohnZohn Thanks, Jim Masters, Happy New Year. December 31st, 2013 7:18 pm Stan Its new years eve.I’m holding out until the new year to wish all a happy new year. I’m no follower.. December 31st, 2013 8:26 pm Stan To do it now is like wishing a happy next year. December 31st, 2013 8:26 pm Johnc Gewurtztraminer ! Gutes neues Jahr! December 31st, 2013 10:08 pm Niner fan Happy new year, Mr. Cohn. I read a transcript of a recent harbaugh press conference, where he apparently winked at you and called you his “guy”? I didn’t know you two were chums. Well, it humored me. Best wishes for 2014! January 1st, 2014 2:11 am Stan NOW,…. happy new year. That’s how you do it. January 1st, 2014 10:47 am Stan David Shaw put his foot on the brake, and Michigan’s coach had his team flying around. Michigan is good, but Stanford could have won if the HC could adapt. He couldn’t. 2 losses in 3 bowl games for Shaw. January 2nd, 2014 9:54 am Stan My song of the day Lowell? 77 Sunset Strip. Tell me you don’t feel cool hearing that song? I can see me in a black suit and smoking a cig. Driving a Vette. And I don’t have a suit and never have smoked. And I have a Toyota. January 2nd, 2014 10:30 am Stan Rick Barry has been reincarnated. He looks different.
