Link to my Sunday column about Jed York:
Well, this is why you were chosen. You’re an adult who isn’t easily unglued, someone who asks before he writes, a keen observer of human fallibility, including his own.
I hope Jed learned something and continues to learn. It’ll make him a better person than legions too perfect or afraid to change.
I like it and I agree with you.
I watched Jed walk up to you, saw your hat and thought it might be you. It’s cool that I knew it was you, seeing only the back of your head from over 3000 miles away on my laptop.
Anyway, before you get too gushy about Jed and since you’re a man who likes to analyze everything, take 29 minutes and listen to TK’s interview with Philly media reporter Reuben Frank. It will give you something to think about, I guarantee it.
Nice article – hope this is the new Jed. Just can’t let go this guy was willing to tank the 2014 season in order to get rid of his head coach. That to me is who jed really is.
Lowell seems to despise people who treat him like dirt – like
Kap, or Bonds for instance. All objectivity goes out the
door. You are regulated to negative column Dantes
But if you kiss the barn door you immediately
gain entrance to Lowells pearly gates.
I think Jed, politeness aside, deserves at least
some time in purgatory for what he has done
to the San Francisco 49ers.
Alice, I agree with you about Jed. You’re always in my pearly gates.
Two things: Kelly’s eyes are, in fact, a little beady. And Jed chose you not so much because of your age or history as because you’ve been his harshest and most vocal critic.
Wow! Great share Lowell and nice olive branch in return with the “Praising Jed York Twice” article. I have always wondered if Jed ever reads your columns, now we know. That also means he’s reading our reader blogs. Love finding out the inside scoop from your columns!
I don’t know about all of this. He still has Baalke, like putting a band aid on a tumor. He needs to get rid of his life preserver before he drowns.
With the hiring of Chip Kelly, does Kaepernick still need to leave town?
I don’t think York is the most hated owner in Bay Area ever…I think that two in Oakland had been hated more and for longer (and not Al Davis, his hate was by outsiders, not fans…maybe not until the end).
But Wolff and Chris Cohan, Cohan seemingly should be more hated, he had just 2 winning seasons (the “we believe” group) in 15 years and under his ownership failed so miserably on signings and draftees:
95 choosing Joe Smith over Stackhouse, Rasheed Wallace and Kevin Garnett
96 choosing Todd Fuller over Kobe, Jermain Oneal and Nash
97 Foyle over Tracy McGrady
98 Drafting Vince Carter (brilliant) but draft day trade for Jamison, could also have drafted Dirk, Pierce
99 Second round Tim Young when Manu was picked right after
And the coaching and GM hires throughout. So yeah, York probably wouldn’t be the most hated owner, heck his Dad beats him in that. And I think thats what these fairweather 49ers fans don’t seem to remember. This year was bad, no doubt, but we lived through Ken Dorsey and Cody Pickett as QBS (and countless others). We had to see Lawrence Phillips (the late) miss a block that ended Steve Youngs career.
I credit York for his effort in 2011 and this year to rectify everything, its a lot more than a few owners have done, and as much as everyone seems to be loving the Raiders…this York ownership has still been wildly more successful than they have.
