SF Giants put Matt Cain on disabled list with a back strain. I was at the Wednesday game, at Cain’s postgame presser and he never talked about a back strain. He clearly didn’t have a back strain the first 4 innings when he threw shutout ball. Maybe he got a back strain sitting in the dugout after the 4th because he gave up 6 runs in the fifth.

Me, I’m skeptical of the back strain. I think — can’t prove — Giants wanted him out of the way in LA next week so the good pitchers can pitch against the Dodgers. So they told him he has a back strain.

You think teams don’t do stuff like this? One former GM of a Bay Area team once told me he was putting a player on injured reserve, disabled list, whatever, with — and I quote — “Back spasms or some (crap).
