Obviously it makes sense for the A’s not to allow the vesting option to kick in. Short term financial sense, that is. But is it wise in the long run? It’s a tough enough sell as is to get free agents even to consider signing with Oakland. Now they’re going to laugh in the A’s face when they start talking about vested options. It’ll be “Yeah, right. Guarantee that last year or forget it.”
I was sitting in traffic a few weeks ago with nothing better to do than listen to 95.7.
Susan was on and unloaded on the A’s on this very subject.
“I know the players association is watching and I am too”
As a past president of the baseball writers association I imagine Susan has a whole lot of clout.
Maybe we put too much faith in the professional dispassion of the beat writer.
I think you left out the big picture Lowell. The insanity of the Oakland org to virtually give away Yoenes Cepedes,Josh “MVP” Hamilton and now Reddick…while extending the always hurt Crisp, and the never traded away Crisp.
Cespedes, Hamilton, and Reddick..that’s a nice outfield. Beane- who Sue Slusser always protects- just gave them away for nothing at all, or wildly bad gambles.
Did I mention Chris Carter at 1st?..ugh.
How many games did Crisp miss because his neck hurt? Oh man,how undedicated can you get?
I’d leave anything for $750,000. Almost anything.
No,you were right- anything.
I know also Billy Beane and the A’s read my posts and sniff ” We got the Josh’s because we traded..” blah blah blah. My answer is? – I don’t care. You had them, then you gave them away. That’s ALL that matters.
Its all that ever matters.
As for Coco and Cain? How many times did I post on Cohn Zone that Gore was also not telling the truth about his hip?
He hasn’t been worth 2 cents since then
Players lie, owners lie..sometimes its so blatant you have to call them down .
The A’s dont need to pay players money if it affects John Fishers art collection hobby. Superman no.1 or Josh Donaldson? You know where John Fisher puts his money….
Beane is a strange guy. Its obvious to a blind man,he trades to the Dodgers to hurt the Giants. So,where does sabermetrics fit in there? Oh,the answer is nowhere, just burning jealousy of Sabean and striking out.
When is the media going to go after A’s ownership(which includes Beane) for the embarassing way they have run a once proud franchise into the ground.
They have reverted back to the Kansas City A’s who were only a farm system for other franchises (most notably the Yankees) after developing players for them.
Oakland is discussing plans for a downtown park for the A’s thinking it will be a financial boon to the city. Thats a joke in itself as new stadiums around the country are still half empty because the product stinks.
2 billionaires who are only interested in padding their pockets is not the kind of ownership we deserve. The Warriors finally got rid of a clueless ownership and turned things around .
A’s fans who go to games are the ‘enablers’ that keep these guys in power when they should have been shown the exit door years ago.Enough is enough
