One other pertinent fact is that Phil Knight will be 79 years old in February. For all I know, he’s in great physical and mental condition, but he ain’t getting any younger. The Ducks have clearly declined under Helfrich, and I don’t see Knight being very patient in this regard — he’ll do whatever it takes to get Chip back to Eugene.
Fun question time:
Lowell – who is the better NFL coach –
Kelly or Tomsula?
Do you think the Niners would have improved on their record of last year if Tomsula had remained as head coach?
Have you ever considered becoming a head coach yourself?
If Harbaugh had not been chased out by little spoiled brat Jed York, would he have the team in the playoffs?
No, Harbaugh would have struggled as well because the GM is pathetic at evaluating talent.
You’re probably correct but that leaves us with Baalke and another 4 – 6 seasons of bad football.
Chip’s optimism at the presser podium is refreshing. And odd.
That was quick. 7 games into our worst year and these are the rumors we get…..
It occurred to me Sunday watching Buckner and Co. get pushed around all over the place in run defense, that we probably do miss Tomsula. He was a joke of an HC, but as a D line coach, he made mediocre talent quite serviceable. Other than the Smiths, we had very little top level talent and yet consistently had a very sturdy D front. Great LBs helped, but the linemen occupying two O linemen at a time was a big part of that equation. Now we have big 1st round talent on our line and we’re getting pummeled to the tune of 250+ on the ground weekly. Leave it to the Yorks and Baalke to over promote guy (a la Singletary) thus making him useless to us now.
If Oregon lets current coach go during the season the only question will be if Kelly actually waits until NFL season is over. If Oregon make move during bye week does Kelly walk then?
Kelly is a college coach, pure and simple and I have said that for a while. His system works in college where you can out talent and simply overwhelm your opponent when you have few limits of how deep your bench is. At the NFL level, you have only 55 on your roster and less active on game day. I don’t care if you have the “right players”, it is simply a new version of the run and shoot and that wears out your defense and eventually costs you games
Bottom line, there is a basic blueprint to win in the NFL and while the nuances and variations on the theme exist, it is still pretty simply. You play keep away with the ball and score touchdowns. Then have your D get the ball back and repeat. Pretty simple
Kelly just doesn’t get it.
53 not 55
Fuels my point further, but yes, my mistake.
Harbaugh crushed Clemson 79-0 2 weeks ago. If Jed doesn’t know a great coach from a Singletary? Its time for him to do a mea culpa and hire a hot shot GM since every niner coach struggled with Balkee players.
Also- KAP. You notice as fast as he is? He’s easy to take down. He isn’t quick. He cant with those long legs simply sidestep a rush …like Brady or Brees. Neither of them are speedburners. You know what else is missing from Kap’s game? He NEVER does the pump fake to buy time. I guess- again- its those long arms that can’t make a good pump AND hold on to the football.
Watch, you never see him do the fast pump. He at best does a windup and by that time they caught him.
HEY!…I see Kap after his conversion to socialism isnt wearing headphones after games. Or,more likely did Dr. Dre drop him? lol..so much for the brotherhood.
