What are John Lynch’s bona fides as a GM? What are Jed York’s as an owner?
This is the “I got your back bro!” hire.
Shanahan wouldn’t come without one of his trusted people in the building who could bitch slap Parathe whenever he tried to attend a football meeting.
This will last MAYBE two years…just pathetic…
Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, it does.
One has been around football most his life and has as much experience as John Elway or Matt Milan when they took over. So it can go either way or somewhere in between. Jed York doesn’t need any bona fides.
His unique qualification is that he lobbied for the job. Most GM candidates were lukewarm, or ran the other way. As they say in Sales, you have to Ask For The Order. That can make all the difference. Now, whether Lynch can be effective… who knows? It’s a wild gamble, but apparently no one truly qualified wanted to work for York, and Kyle didn’t mesh with the last two hangers-on. Plus, Jed says he needed some sleep. http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/01/30/robert-kraft-patriots-nfl-super-bowl-51-falcons-peter-king
The key here is…Lynch needs to hire the best scouts money can buy. It worked for Beane, for Sabean, for Walsh,Reggie I’m sure got some former GB scouts. What gm/hd can look at film all day?…they need to hear “I saw him,and..” from a scout.
If Jed cheapskates on scouts..best of luck on guessing.
If Shanahan were actually the best person for this job, he’d be too smart to take it. He should pull a Steve Kerr and jump to the Colts. Prime Andrew Luck is beachfront property. The Niners are a dumpster fire where the owner and his henchmen will leave their footprints all over your back.
So I guess Shanahan must be one of the “better people” you said would not be coming here. Can you imagine that.
If you squint at some of his photos he looks like John Elway.
I like Lynch. Great broadcaster. Seems like a good smart guy. Has some local ties. No idea how he’ll do as a GM as he has no track record in the business end of the sport. Still, I’ll be willing to give him a fair shot, especially since I have no feel for any of these other candidates that have been touted in the media over the past few weeks. I don’t mind an out of box solution here, especially if he teams well with Shanahan, which he obviously appears to do.
Qualifications: prepares well; telegenic; is a name; makes Jed swoon. Isn’t that enuff?
