Stanford almost out of Luck

Stanford absolutely murdered Washington tonight, and Washington is allegedly a good team. The zany thing is Stanford did it mostly with defense and by running the ball. Andrew Luck, as great as he is, was kind of a spectator. That's how balanced Stanford is. Anyway, that's why I came up [...]

Andrew Luck speaks for himself

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat just posted my Friday column on Andrew Luck. Luck and Stanford, as you know, start the current season on Saturday against San Jose State. Luck is a great college quarterback and an interesting guy. I interviewed him in a group setting at the Bay Area [...]

David Shaw to Stanford and 49er repercussions

Stanford just announced David Shaw is their new head coach. This frees up other Stanford coaches to go with Jim Harbaugh to the 49ers. Expect Greg Roman to the offensive coordinator. He would help Harbaugh create the game plan and he would call some, maybe most of the plays. Harbaugh [...]

Stanford to change its name to Harbaugh University

In an explosive development I just tweeted on my twitter, the Cohn Zohn has learned exclusively that Stanford University has offered to change its name to Harbaugh University if Jim Harbaugh agrees to remain as head coach. And that's not all. If Harbaugh stays, Stanford will throw in a new [...]

Is Harbaugh a flake?

I slept in this morning, woke up, sat down at my desk. My kid Iggy walks into my office. He's laughing. He says Harbaugh has two agents. He says one is negotiating with the NFL, the other is negotiating with Stanford. He says one gets paid and one doesn't depending [...]

All quiet on the Harbaugh front

It's 6:40 pm on Thursday and it's all quiet on the Harbaugh front. What does it mean? Some theories: Harbaugh and the Dolphins are a done deal but they have to wait until Miami fires Sparano and finds a phony way to comply with the Rooney Rule. And then the [...]

Andrew Luck stays at Stanford

Stanford announced Andrew Luck will stay in school -- he won't leave for the NFL. Fascinating. I don't believe this means Jim Harbaugh will reconsider and stay at Stanford. I think it means Luck and Harbaugh are separate items. Luck wants his degree -- remember, he's a Stanford student and [...]

Why Harbaugh won’t stay at Stanford

I don't believe Jim Harbaugh will remain at Stanford. I have no inside info on this -- it's not like Harbaugh got me on the phone and spilled his gut to me. I just think he's leaving and here's why. He never can do better at Stanford than he did [...]

Stanford’s bowl prospects

Stanford trounced Oregon State Saturday night and ought to be eligible for a BCS Bowl game, maybe even the Rose Bowl. That's what ought to be. Who knows if it's actually what will be. Stanford is a heck of a team with a terrific coach and quarterback. The Cardinal has [...]

Stanford up 14-0

It's still the first quarter and Stanford leads Oregon State 14-0. Andrew Luck threw two TD passes. This Stanford offense is so much more creative and interesting than the 49er offense.
