New improved Warriors

Here is a link to my Thursday column about the Warriors. The full text runs below: OAKLAND — Are the Warriors improved from last year? Does gravity make things fall down? You bet they’re improved. Their record is 15-2, and coming into tonight’s game against New Orleans, the Warriors have won 10 in a row. Yes, 10. So, the first question — are they improved? — morphs into two questions: How improved are they? Why have they improved? They are… Read More »

Warriors defeat Nuggets in Game 4

Here is the opening to my Monday column about the Warriors going up 3-1 in the playoff series with Denver: OAKLAND — This column is about Andrew Bogut. But first a statement to you, the jurors. It is hard to see the Denver Nuggets winning this playoff series, now that they’re down three games to one, now that they lost Game 4 115-101. It is easy to see the Golden State Warriors winning this series. Sure, strange things can happen,… Read More »

Monta Ellis vs. Andrew Bogut

Here is the opening to my Tuesday column examining the Monta Ellis for Andrew Bogut trade almost a year later: There has been disappointment about Andrew Bogut, and with good reason. He has been a presence on the Warriors in the sense of mostly being an absence. And now, in addition to his bum ankle, he has a bad back and he has a doctor’s note for more absences. If he were a student, you’d call him a truant. Bogut’s… Read More »

On Warriors and Andrew Bogut

Stan is agitating for me to write about the Andrew Bogut fiasco. Sure. Happy to do it. I’m in the press box at Stanford Stadium to watch Stanford beat UCLA for the second time in six days, which gives me time to write about the W’s. I was on Comcast yesterday while Kozimor did a live interview with Bob Myers who seemed very nervous. Myers is a good guy and he took all the heat for the whole organization —… Read More »

Andrew Bogut on the shelf

What we know is Andrew Bogut is on the shelf 7 to 10 days. It could be more, but the Warriors aren’t saying. Is this a death knell for the Warriors and was it wrong to get Bogut? It certainly is too early to draw those conclusions. For the time being I take the Warriors at their word. They will not play Bogut up to 10 days. Let’s see what happens after that before declaring the end of the world.

Monta Ellis for Andrew Bogut. Yes!!

As I promised earlier, I wrote a column on the Warriors trading Monta Ellis and two others (Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown) for Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut and one other (Stephen Jackson, ugh!). In my humble opinion, this is one heck of a trade for the Warriors even though they are almost certainly waving the white flag for this season because Bogut is recovering from a broken ankle. (I know they beat the Kings tonight, but come on.) Next year,… Read More »
