Two Giants questions

As I sit here at my desk watching the rain fall, I have two Giants questions. I go to Arizona on Wednesday and I'm thinking baseball. 1. Will Aaron Rowand have an impact on the team this season? That question may make you laugh -- he got pushed aside in [...]

Barry Zito is important

ComcastSportsNet Bay Area just posted the latest effort from my son Iggy. It's about the importance of Barry Zito to the 2011 Giants. Iggy argues that Zito is very important, this despite the fact that he got humiliated in the postseason when Brian Sabean and Bruce Bochy left him off [...]

Giants roster — no Zito, again

The Giants posted their 25-man roster for the NLCS and as far as I can tell no Barry Zito and no Dan Runzler, no Jose Guillen. To me it looks like the same roster they used vs. the Braves. I admit I'm jetlagged and still in my pjs at my [...]

What Zito said

Barry Zito talked to the media about 8:00 pm Wednesday night. He admitted he will not get a start vs. the Braves in the Division Series. That wasn't news -- Bruce Bochy already told us that a few hours earlier. He's dropped the highest-paid Giant from the rotation. The real [...]

Rowand in, Zito ?????

Bruce Bochy just said quite forcefully Aaron Rowand is on the postseason roster. Asked about Barry Zito, Bochy said his starting pitchers are: Game 1: Tim Lincecum Game 2: Matt Cain Game 3: Jonathan Sanchez Game 4: Madison Bumgarner or Tim Lincecum Notice which name he omitted -- Zito. So [...]

Zito, Rowand off postseason roster?????

Barry Zito and Aaron Rowand earn a combined $30.5 million this season. Keep that number in mind. Neither has done much for the Giants this season. Keep that in mind, too. Do you think the Giants will keep them on the roster for the series vs. the Braves? Before I [...]

Zito equals dud

I wrote my Sunday column on Barry Zito, human dud. I saw him pitch Saturday and he was awful, more awful even than Matt Cain was on Friday. The Giants had two chances to put away the San Diego Padres and failed twice, although they can complete the deed on [...]

Zito failed

Barry Zito failed, but what did you expect? He got yanked in the top of the 4th after he gave up a leadoff walk, his 3rd walk. He was in constant trouble and he threw 60 pitches and he did not do what the Giants needed -- stop the Padres. [...]

Zito’s 1st inning

Zito, top of first: walked in two runs, threw 33 pitches. This is why this guy is worrisome. He could blow up in this game. Bochy had Chris Ray warming up in pen at Zito's 26th pitch in top of first. Ouch.

Zito: can he do it?

Today is Barry Zito's day. He can wrap up the NL West for the Giants but he has to pitch well. He earns $126 million, a lot of dough for a pitcher who hasn't produced consistently. He could actually earn a chunk of that today. I have no confidence in [...]
