seventh overall pick, Harrison Barnes

I’m at Warriors HQ covering the NBA draft. I like the Warriors’ first pick, Harrison Barnes, whom they took seventh. One of the announcers said Barnes was the seventh overall pick. What is the difference between being the seventh pick and the seventh overall pick? I see no difference. I also like how every pick is “a high character guy.” Really? Back to the draft — I mean the overall draft.
