49ers win first round in money dispute with Santa Clara County

On Tuesday, the 49ers won a temporary restraining order which prohibits Santa Clara County from spending the disputed $30 million it is withholding from the team. The judge, who seems to be leaning in favor of the 49ers, has set a trial date of July 27 to rule on the money. If the Niners win, and they may just do that, this would be an important victory for them. To read an article explaining these developments in more detail, please… Read More »

The article indicates the $30 million the Niners may not get from Santa Clara County could be just the tip of the iceberg for real funding difficulties in completing the financing for the proposed stadium which already is in the early stages of construction. Clearly, lots of politicians in the City of Santa Clara are scurrying and worrying. I don’t pretend to understand… Read More »

Very bad if 49ers sue Santa Clara

Here is the opening to my Tuesday column, which treats the touchy situation between the Niners and Santa Clara, a dispute over $30 million: I’m offering serious advice to the 49ers about their new stadium, but first you need a little background. Last Friday, Santa Clara County officials voted not to give the 49ers $30 million for their stadium, currently in the early stages of construction. The $30 million was supposed to come from redevelopment funds. It’s just that the… Read More »
